Alexander can climb ANYTHING!! He will stack things on top of one another to get where he needs to go!...I have 2 cats too...so I had her in the perfect area, but I think I'm going to have to find a new place...

mom used two to block doorways with us. One stacked on the other, with only enough room for us to put our hands out.

My brother was FOREVER climbing over it until she did that. We had a deep stairwell that if we had fallen down it, it would have done serious damage, so having the gates with the 'lock' part on the outside (no idea what else to call it, as the gates look far different than now) was what worked for us.

I'll be investing in some (two or three) before too long as we are getting a puppy in a month or so, and before long my Little one will be up and running (lol), and I'll need to contain him in a room until mommy or daddy can get to him, or to keep him in the room with me. You always know when they get really quiet and are not asleep, they are up to no good.. :fear

when my son was 2 I started doing time outs. Then he figured out he did not have to stay where I put him. My sister told me to bring in a carseat and buckle him in the chair (calling it his time out chair). Once he realized he would be buckled, he began staying in time out. Also, about spanking, I think you should really reserve if for only certain times..like when they are really endangering themselves or something really bad. If you over use it, they will not be scared of it and it will not work. We use it only at "major' offenses...if that makes sense. That way, he is still kind of scared of it and threatening it often times straightens out his behavior. He is 4 now and "pretty well behaved"...for the most part..
haha, knock on wood!! :heh

Yep, confining them works when the time out chair and spankings don't. :thumb We have a crib tent and when they get out of control we zip them in until they calm down. They hate it and we rarely have to do it.
