This is a joke, correct? (I just heard it on the radio news too though so now I'm wondering if it is being taken serious?)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The millions of economic stimulus payments gave a massive jolt to household finanances in May, sending after-tax incomes up by the largest amount in 33 years. more (http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080627/economy.html)

At least, I find it to be pretty funny. Is this some silly effort to try and make the markets go up today?

Since when is out-of-thin-air, fiat "money", given to us by the government printing presses, considered "after tax income"?

Oh well ... I got a chuckle out of it anyway. :D

yeah i thought the exact thing..... plus their's a guy right now on fox business, saying "well we're talking to 'regular" people here in Washington D.C. and it's amazing the common sense these people have and the view of the economy and that they seem to be coping just fine...."

Im thinking, ok yeah these are succesful white collar people with maybe one kid etc.
why don't you go to Aldi's or the discount stores and talk to those people and see how they're "coping" with the economy.

I read somewhere that, maybe more than the "stimulus checks", foreclosures may be freeing up a lot of spendable cash for families. Heck of a way for "incomes" to rise!

That's an interesting angle. Never thought of that.

What's that commercial? 90% of statistics can be made to say anything--20% of the time.

Seriously, it is like giving a homeless, penniless man five dollars and saying how much his disposable income has increased. :rolleyes What about when that five dollars is gone?

But of course that spendable cash would go to gas and food...oh....I'm sorry, the government doesn't count food and gas inflation....

Nevermind.

Move along.
