I dont care for Focus, but I have the radio on in the morning as I get ready for work and today they were featuring Greg Laurie. I have to tell you that I am not very pleased at this time with all that is going on with Mr. Laurie and his new vision and fellowshipping with apostates, but this morning his testimony left a sour taste in my mouth.

All during the testimony I got the sense that he was trying to be cool and cute and funny regarding his LSD days and he also kept referring to the Christians who were around him at the time as Jesus freaks and this was a constant verbiage he was using. I also got the sense that he was glorying in his past life..... almost like rellishing it..... I really tried not to be critical but I cannot quench my spirit.

Anyways, he kept saying how his life was empty and he needed the hole to be filled and he kept focusing on the act of drug usage. Not once did I hear the word repent or sin or wages of sin or death or hell. All I got from his testimony was that he had a leak and it needed to be plugged and Jesus was the big stopper.

Sad times............. they are giving part 2 tomorrow.

He's been promoting his new book, can't remember the name. That's probably why he was on the show.

I read an excerpt on World Net Daily, and it was dry and full of psychological know-how. His glorifying of his past is most likely how he'll sell more books.

I understand your distaste in light of recent information regarding Greg Laurie. That saddens me too. However, as one who was a teenager in the 60's the term Jesus Freaks was common among the youth who became born again believers. I believe that Laurie was one of them, at the time that Chuck Smith began witnessing to the beach scene and formed Calvary Chapel. It isn't a slur although I'm aware that it does sound like it is. Those of us who were around at that time remember it as a just a name given to "hippy believers." I hope that lessens the sting of the terminology.

I know the significance of the term, what I object to is his using it like it was going out of style or with much bravado to tell what should have been a simple and humble story......

I think the way it was used defeated that purpose, but I appreciate your insight.

Like I said, I am disgusted.

I agree with you Berean Girl. It sounds like the attitude behind the term was inappropriate. Last week I was surprised that it looked like he was embracing apostasy. I don't get it that preachers whom we respected are falling left and right. I knew it was happening, but I never realized the extent that it would happen.

And even more shocking is those who are attending these churches either could care less, dont know and dont want to know or think this is the best thing since sliced bread!! :ohno

Some of my own friends think I'm a nut for taking a stand against such people as RW and the like. They follow blindly anyone who is called a Christian regardless of what they teach. They do not test their words against scripture. Yes, it's very frustrating.

Greg Laurie's new book is called "Lost Boy". I heard his program on the radio while driving one day last week where it was mentioned.

I have no opinion him as I really don't know much about him. What I've heard of his radio preaching(few and far between) "seemed" all right...but not enough for me to make a good judgement call about him. I only have the radio on when I"m in the car, which is less and less these days!

Oh but you just don't understand, we like to hear only nice things at Church. We don't want a Pastor who makes us feel guilty or bad about ourselves. There is enough gloom and doom in the world with out the Pastor preaching that way.

These are just a few things I have been told recently by people who love Joel Osteen.:doh

sorry you guys, but I think you are too quick to judge. I know so many people on drugs and battling addiction. His testimony may not work for you but it could be just the one that changes the opinion of 1 of your loved ones. Have only heard part 1 but he seems to stress his drug use to emphasis/relate to certain people....he doesn't need to appeal to a believer.
