I've never used a concordance. Being raised in the computer age, I've always used the computer to look stuff up. I thought a concordance was just a way to find other parallel passages and words which I use a lot on the on-line Bible. Is a concordance a dictionary too? If it is how do the authors come to their interpretations. If I don't understand a passage I look it up in every Bible version available. How would using a concordance be better than reading the passage in context? Can someone help me out? Thanks. :)

A concordance is a word search via pages/index for scripture. I've got an exhaustive concordance on the RSV and it beats anything online or otherwise.
I love it.

A concordance is something like a dictionary of Bible words, organized alphabetically. One of my favorites is an old one --might have to go to used book place to find it. But it's a little different, and special. If you are in a small group study, and want a book small enough to hold and still hold a bible, try a Cruden's Complete Concordance. You can sit in the group with one in your lap and if someone says "What was that verse that goes like this ?"..... and gives a few words you can often find it quickly. Crudens lists many of its entries by the two or three word phrase, and you can help a whole topic by using it. It's based on kjv. I like it a lot

Heres on on line on one.http://www.blueletterbible.org/
Its got all the different versions too.
Most of the time I find the meaning of the word in the version is basicaly the same .But occasionaly its not or is extended a little further.Thats why some of the translations out nowadays are fought over by scholars. Some for good reason.Just as a side note;I often use a good english dictionary and look up the words there.Sometimes I really dont know the full meaning of words I use every day!Maybe I should have taken english class more seriously!
They also have books on anceint customs and manners.they great too.
I could go on and on .......but im sure this concordance will keep you busy for a while.I love studying God Word .All the books written by men and women
are great, but there's nothing like finding it out from the scriptures yourself.
Hope I have been some help..
