I attended an auction a couple weeks ago and the item I wanted to bid on, the auctioneers stuck a box of books to be auctioned off with it. Well, I bid and won the lot. When I was sifting through the box of books I found a dozen pocket-sized New Testament Bibles, complete with Psalms and Proverbs (by Gideons), witnessing books, and a host of other religious books. One of the books is called "A Book of Prayers." It has morning and evening prayers in it for each day of the week, covering a two-week span, prayers for any concievable "emergency" as well as prayers for all the holidays and Holy days. So I came across this prayer for Independence Day and thought I'd share. Maybe if enough of us prayed this, for our government is truly not what the prayer states, God might make "some" positive changes.

Anyway, here's the prayer with my added petitions in ( ).

Lord God, Ruler of the nations, we stand in awe of Your power, majesty and judgments. You have placed upon the eternal throne YourSon, the Lord Jesus Christ, to be King of Kings and Lord of Lords, where He rules with omnipotent power. Oh, grant that at all times we give Him the reverence, honor, and obedience due Him. We thank You for Your guidance in calling into being our country with (what used to be) its orderly form of government and its guarentee of liberty of life and conscience and pursuit of happiness. With grateful hearts we acknowledge Your goodness in giving the nation leaders who seek the welfare of the people (if only you could direct them into seeking the welfare of the American citizens who are suffering first before they embark on other people). You did build and protect this nation. Kindle in our hearts this day a true appreciation of our form of government (before it was corrupted), as an instrument of Your making. Teach us to share responsibilities and duties of our commonwealth. Protect our courts that at all times they execute justice, that righteousness may prevail and obedience be shown by all. Be our Defender in the years that lie ahead. Ward off all foes threatening our land from without or within (even if it be members of the Supreme Cort, Congress, or people running for president). Above all, O heavenly Father, speed the course of Your gospel among us, that our people, free in their earthly citizenship, may be liberated from sin, to serve You to the glory of Your eternal name. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.:pray
