Starting in July, motorists who drive into many of the 180 Flash Foods service stations in Georgia and Florida might be caught off guard. Instead of seeing signs displaying the price of regular, midgrade, and premium fuels, they will notice only two prices: "unleaded credit" and "unleaded cash." The cash price will be 6¢ cheaper than the credit option.

See it a lot at truck stops, for diesel.
Wasn't this fairly normal years ago or am I imagining it?

My daughter was in the Detroit area last weekend and used their debit card for gas. They were charged a fee of $1.50 to use the card, got about .50 in gas before the station ran out.

Some stations in my area of Arkansas have stopped taking Credit Cards and others are offering cash price vs CC price.

I heard on a news report, can't remember where now, but it costs the stations extra money to process transactions on a credit card...so they are opting out of those credit card purchases vs. cash sales.
Rather an ominous sign to me.

I haven't seen that specific thing but I remember the news running a story that gas stations are losing money when people use their credit card to pay for gas. Something about the fees being too high. By the way, our gas here went from $3.95 on Sunday to $4.13 yesterday! So weird.

Beleive the term is interchange fee, currently it is 2% of each transaction but since the price of fuel has gone up that fee is costing the gas station alot more, I heard that Visa is changing the fee in Sept.

Probably due to the 4th of July weekend. They know people will be traveling. They always raise prices on big travel weekends. Although, it is a bit early for the weekend . . . but I know a lot of people at my work started their vacations this week . . . most of them traveling by car . . .

This is illegal. Vendors are allowed to give a discount for cash, but not to charge a fee for accepting debit/credit cards. I wonder what the station manager would have said if your daughter had pointed that out. I have had to mention this a couple of times when vendors tried to charge me a fee for using my card. They'd act soooo surprised, say they didn't know...but they took off the charge and didn't try charging me again later.
