Doesn't surprise me. I have a friend who had to take a creative writing class in college, and lost points on assignments because she didn't use curse words. I can't remember her professor's insane logic about it, but it was something along the lines that it wasn't a "credible" story without them, or some nonsense like that.

People curse when they do not have the ability to think and use appropriate words. For a professor to accept a paper and give it a higher grade because of expletives truly shows how far the academic world has sunk. So much for higher education.

Yep and it seems like the F word has become the favored adjective.

It is no longer considered inappropriate language. People now use it as a normal part of speech, my son included. When I brought that to his attention he took notice.

This isn't what actually happened. What actually happened was worse (in my mind).

The student recieved 2 points out of 27 on an essay question. (just one question).

He received 2 points instead of zero because he didnt leave the question blank and wrote a word and spelled it correctly. Apparently he would have gotten more had he punctuated it.

:preach So the victim here isnt necessarily morality, but rather proper ecucational discipline was completely ignored. Giving someone 2 points because they were able to form a word where the boy should have gotten 0 for not even addressing the question. (imvho)

I can't remember an essay i ever filled out where i got points for spelling words correctly, as far as I remember you dont get credit if you dont answer the question.

Exactly. I remember LOSING points for spelling incorrectly, but not the other way around. Being able to spell correctly shouldn't be rewarded. It should be expected. If a student cannot spell words correctly, either he/she isn't putting forth the effort, or the educational system has failed. Too many students are passed to the next grade each year who shouldn't be, because they aren't at the proper grade levels in basic subjects.
