Not that I,m any great saint but the Bible clearly sez no to the tatoo issue.
Leviticus 19v28 "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead nor PRINT any marks upon you.I am the Lord."
Why are we all giving our opinions here? It,s in black and white and it,s message is clear.NO Piecering, tatoo,s or anything like it.

Thanks for the verse. I will share it with a friend of mine who's considering one. Again, I do not have any tattoos but I will not look down on anyone who does either. One of my very best friends, someone who helped me come to the Lord has a tattoo. She regrets it now. But pray about it and see where God leads you:)

When in doubt as to whether or not to post a thread, I recommend using the search function. Also, if you want to avoid the troll label, one of the first threads a troll will start will involve the question "is xyz a sin?" because they KNOW it will cause division. The search function is your friend. :nod

Did you call me a troll? :idunno I promise, I was/am only looking for opinions from others. I will utilize the 'search' function from now on Mom. :hug

I think I've decided against a tattoo. The hair analogy helped tremendously. I would never want my long hair back, but it sure was cool back in the day. I'd hate to have a permanent marking with only a temporary interest.

I have to agree with Tall Timbers about the appearance thing.
That being said.....

My answer would be; What's your tribe? Who do you witness to: Will that help or hurt?
Do you need to witness to bikers or tattoo artists or others where it would help?

If you're doing it because everyone else is then I would say no. Israel was not to have tattoos like the neighboring tribes, but we're not Isreal. But we are called to be different than the un-saved tribe.

If you've talked to G-d and you're sure he says OK, then go ahead.
They can be removed with lasers now. They even have special ink to make that easier.

No, I am saying if you want to avoid being labeled as one. :thumb 9 out of 10 trolls agree....division in a Christian forum makes for good quotes to use against them on athiest websites. What better way to do it? Ask if the following things are a sin:

1. alcohol
2. tattoos
3. smoking
4. dancing (yes, dancing)

This is why it is always best to use the search and see where such threads went before (hint: they always end badly).

I have a friend who belongs to a Christian biker organization.....it goes without saying that he has alot of tat's. :fear :lol2 His are all Christian (that I've seen) and he has had many instances where it has been an opening to talk to people and witness to them. :idunno

Personally I wouldn't want to be stuck with something like that for the rest of my life. I get bored way too easily.

I've only seen one in my life that I thought looked great on a person. It was down in Jamaica on the beach, the guy's body was perfect and hairless so he had a great canvas to start with. :whistle It was a very simple tattoo that you could clearly tell what it was at first glance. It was also the only one that could be seen so your eye wasn't drawn to alot of tattoo 'gibberish'. Most of them just look like a mess to me. :idunno You can't tell what they are until you really study them up close. Personally, I wouldn't want people looking at me going ":twitch what is that?!? :scratch??

Edited to add: When getting a tattoo you need to consider the fact that you are drawing peoples eyes to parts of your body. Are those parts in places that would make people lust after you? We have a responsibility to our brothers and sisters in Christ to not draw their eyes and their thoughts to us in a lustful way. For example, the guy that I saw in Jamaica, I definately noticed him and his body in a way that I wouldn't have if he didn't have such a striking tattoo.

Tatoos and piercings used to bother me, and green hair. But, as my son went through his teenage years and I met many wonderful kids that had all sorts of weird looks, I came to appreciate the person and no longer see the skin. I just think to myself how sorry they are going to be when they are my age and stuck with that ugly green thing on their skin, or the super sagging earlobes if they wear those big round things in their ears. What are those called?

Of course, I am still dead set against hanging the pants down below the butt or girls dressing super provocatively. . .

I had my ears pierce when I was 19 years old (as my parent said, "if God meant for you to have holes in your ears, He would have put them there.)

A few years later I hear a sermon that included the passage in Exodus 21: 5-6

If the servant plainly says, "I love my master... I will not go out free," Then his master shall... pierce his ear with an awl; And he shall serve him forever.

I then went and had an extra hole pierced in one of my ears as a sign that I indeed loved my Master and will serve Him Forever!
