I am not sure if I am posting in the right spot, but I do feel like it is related to last days events. Our public school system has become a secular/humanist breeding ground. My 9 year old daughter has felt it for the past year and does not want to go back to school in the fall. Fortunately, I found an online charter school that is all home-taught. The great part of it is that it is part of the public school system, so she will still have grades, records, credits, etc...while I am guiding her through the information. I have prayed about this and really feel this is what God wants for her.

Wonderful! Congratulations! I just started homeschooling this past year. There is alot of great info about homeschooling in the homechooling section in the ladies forum in RR. Check it out. Its a great place to ask questions or just vent :) I found joining a Christian homeschool co-op was really helpful and gave my kids a chance to be with other kids.

We'll be starting our sixth year of homeschooling this fall. :)

Proverbs 27:23 says: "Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks." Homeschooling has helped me be a "shepherd" and "gatekeeper" for my children. I've been able to disciple them and we talk about everything.

It's a blessing that I'm so grateful for.

Many blessings to you and your daughter as the Lord guides you.

Anyone know why the homeschooling forum is in the ladies' forum? I am a father of three and will begin homeschooling this fall. :scratch

Hi txmomof3! Don't feel that you have to stick with the program you outlined...especially in TX, the best state in the country to homeschool! YOU CAN keep all the grades and records. I live in South Carolina and homeschool here and it works great. Since I plan on sending my kids to a private school in high school I called them and asked if they needed anything special and they said parent made report cards and records are fine. I also get my kids to take standardized tests once a year, which i administer, but are not scored by me (Iowa tests or Stanford tests). I can give you tons of info! My point is, don't commit to that yet without first looking at all the options because you may find it to be very stifling and not what you were hoping for at all. My sister spent 3000 on Grace Academy online and it's horrible. It was a year of misery for her kids.

Class Action Homeschool is a computer program for record keeping (google it). It's simply AMAZING. You can also create your own schedules. Pm me your email address and I will send you a sample of one of my school schedules.

Here's some other top notch curricula:
www.sonlight.com
www.bjupress.com (Comes with test premade and answer keys, excellent stuff)
google Saxon Math, great math program.

The best book on homeschooling out there is Mary Pride's Guide to getting Started in homeschooling. It has 10 times the info any of the other books have, and is a must buy.

Let me know if I can help in any way or if you have questions!

We buy all our homeschool materials on ebay. We get Alpha Omega lifepacs (we LOVE those), BJU Press, and Abeka. We spend about $100 or less on books and materials because ebay is such a bargain! Also over the internet there are so many free classes for kids. I also keep my own records. You can google homeschool tracker. It's a free downloadable program that helps you schedule and keep report cards for your kids.

Yeah come on over and check out the homeschooling area at RR... Lots of great support from the fellow homeschooling families here..

I wish we had charter schools in Washington - i don't know all the details of them, but i hear they are a great alternative to public schools with your own curriculums (minus the Christian themes right?) and they move at their pace right?!! But they do receive funding from the govt and can pretty much do what they want within reason.. Great alternative to public school IMHO of the little info i have.

We are homeschooling this year with the littler ones and have been homeschooling for 7 years and next year is year 8.. But we are putting my soon to be 9th grader in a "Choice" 4 core classes program with the public school, he's on the waiting list and hopefully will get in this Sept. - FYI: it's an alternative learning program for kids' in our school district who don't fit with the regular HS kids for any reason..

And for the afternoon classes we are hoping to put him in OSC - (short for Occupational Skills Center) -- which is a vo-tech school for highschoolers - it's an awesome program and is open to Juniors and Seniors now, but we are hoping b/c of his homeschool status they will allow him in sooner and there is a good possibility they will allow it!! As they use to be a 4 year school - and i believe sometimes still are depending on the circumstances of each student.

I give you all that info. just in case it's interesting for your son/daughter and available in your state.. :) I LOVE it!

Welcome to RR and hope to see you around the board..

Well, I've decided that if I ever have children, I will be homeschooling them. However, seeing as I'm 23 and I've never had a date, I have come to think that perhaps I am not meant to marry, especially looking at news headlines. If the Lord chooses to bless me with a family, so much the better, but I'm trying to focus on serving Him and being content where I am, and looking to the sky for His return! :)

But I definitely think that homeschooling is one of the best things that we as Christians can do for children. Considering the filth invading schools these days, it's a hazard to send children there.

At 23 you are very wise. :thumb
