Greetings All,

I think this is the best place to post this thread. Mods, if not, please move it.

Anyway, there has been a rash of gasoline siphoning incidents in my neighborhood over the last week. Fortunately, my vehicle has yet to be effected. The lowest grade regular gas here in Manlius, NY, is $4.27 a gallon. This is a high-income suburb of Syracuse, which is for the most part an econmically depressed city and has been for years. My income is well below what most wage earners in this town make! I am wondering just who is stealing the gasoline?

Are any of you noticing a spike in gasoline siphoning or filling station drive-offs in your areas?

I have been thinking about a locked gas cap. Has anyone tried this? Would it make a difference?:thinking

Mine was being siphoned, I ordered a locking gas cap and that stopped it. In the meantime, until it could get here, I put a motion detector next to the car, that worked also, it was very loud.

My car has the little flappy thing that hides the cap.. it can only be opened from the inside of the car. I guess it could be pried open, but I'd notice that. :twitch

Out here, most gas stations are 'pay before you pump' so drive-offs aren't an issue that I've heard about.

Sorry to hear you've been having people steal gasoline from your tank. :(

Locking gas caps may not stop a determined thief...they've been drilling tanks and draining them that way in many places this year.

This is why I don't have a locked gas cap. I would much rather my gas be siphoned than have someone drill into my tank!!

I'd sure hate to catch anyone stealing my gas. They'll get to see God real quick and I'll help arrange the meeting. Now that you mention it my cousins next door to us steal our gas. I'd most likely won't shoot them but they'll get a good beating. If neither of the two God will take care of them. That is so sad.

They'll get punished in the end.

Locking gas caps were very popular during the Carter administration. That is also when they came up with the gas cap covers that only opened from inside the car.

Someone here at work just told me that "gas cannot be siphoned from my car". I hope he knows what he is talking about.:rolleyes
