It's rock 'n' roll time at Rhythm & Hues, Marietta's once-a-month music venue, as headliner Ben Deignan struts across the stage before leaping onto a chair.

He and his band are playing to a caffeinated crowd, stoked by free Starbucks coffee — after a $5 cover charge — and warmed up by the mostly acoustic open mic acts.

When Deignan launches into "Sexy Black Dress," it's easy to forget you're in a church.

I think this part of the article bothered and disgusted me more than any other part:

There's one golden rule: Don't preach.

"It's a church, but we don't hire churchy people, :scratch :twitch" Mackey said. "In fact, that's a big request when I hire people. I say, 'Do not preach, just sing your songs. Songs can be about God, that is perfectly fine, but if you preach :preach, we probably won't invite you back. :shocked :doh"
(emphasis through "smilies" added by me, of course)

No preaching allowed. Wow! Wonder what Paul would have said to that.
