The kids and I just watched a movie made in 2004 about Mama Heidi--a missionary to Mozambique. She and her husband Rolland both work there, but the movie was mainly about Heidi. It's an impressive documentary--she goes out and picks up kids who are homeless and brings them back to their orphanage. The film shows the new arrivals showering in her bathroom, before they go to the dorm room. She is always holding a child or hugging children in the film. Heidi is a beautiful lady. She prays great sounding prayers, and teaches about Jesus. I was very impressed.

So...I did some research about iris ministries, and saw that she had a speaking engagement at Lakeland. Uh oh.

I've spent the last couple of hours researching her on the net. The articles I find linking her with Toronto blessing point to her and her husband as examples of good fruit that came out of the Toronto Blessing movement. I read an article after typing in "Heidi Baker-critique" positively comparing her with Mother Theresa, who the author described as living a nonjoyful, nonevangelical life (unlike Heidi Baker who seems very evangelical and joyful). She is part of the whole Lakeland thing, and was part of a revival Todd Bentley did in Africa.

Is anyone familiar with the Bakers?

She's is a proponent of contemplative spirituality (soaking prayer, etc) and is an associate of John Arnott and Todd Bentley, and also part of the Elijah List.

From List of Pretenders/Teachers (http://simplicityinchrist.org/list-of-pretendersteachers/)
Soaking Prayer (or Music) is nothing more than contemplative / centering / listening prayer and is used for occult meditation. The Elijah List website sells a broad range of Soaking Prayer CDs, packaged as contemplative soaking, soaking worship, spontaneous worship, saturating, prophetic worship.

Soaking prayer is not found in the Bible.
