This just dawned on me as I was posting on another thread but it may get lost there. If you keep cash at home, be aware of your homeowners policy and thefts of cash. I used to handle theft claims and the policy had a very low limit on replacement of cash (such as $200). You may can purchase an endorsement to your policy to give you a higher limit on the theft/burglary of cash but I just wanted to make everyone aware of something most people do not know about. Fireproof safe and hidden behind false walls is more likely to be your protection (maybe along with a .38 :heh).

Thank you for the post,
this was brought to my attention Friday evening when I was discussing with my friend the silver rounds I have
and I was told to quickly obtain a safe, (and bolt it to the floor) and don't let anyone know the combination.
You know we were told to watch not stock up, just a thought. At least it will be here for someone if we are raptured out of here sooner than later.
:praying for all of us watching and getting ready, for the Jews to make it to Israel, the beleivers in the Tribulation and unbelievers today to accept the saving grace of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior.
Remembering our promises found in the Bible to comfort us.
''When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.''(Luke 21:28)
Jeremiah 29:11 says " I know the plans I have for you, say the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you".
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that is within us, to HIM BE GLORY!"
Eph. 3:20, 21

SandieB, do you mind sharing how your DH attached the safe to the wall and floor? We've considered buying a safe, but we have a concrete foundation and didn't feel good about a safe that thieves could just pick up and take with them. :whoa

My dh bolted it to the floor and I asked him if we had a concrete floor would he do that and if so how and his answer was yes he would do it and he put lag bolts in it he said that inside the safe there are places for you to bolt it down he marked it 9on the floor) where the place was...moved the safe..drilled a hole ..put an anchor in the hole and then put the safe back and put lag bolts in it..he did the same for the wall. Any other question he said he would be glad to answer. :)

I don't think cash is going to do much good if there's hyperinflation. Food is probably a better idea.

Couldn't the theives, upon finding a safe, threaten to kill your loved one if you didn't open it:idunno:thinking? I would think a safe would be a billboard sign, advertising that you have valuables, more valuable than the ones you have laying out in the open.
I like Sojourner's suggestion of hiding in a book, or somewhere plain, where the thieves wouldn't think to look for valuables. At least this way, you're not advertising you have "valuable" valuables.

I've long kept my extra cash in my "treasury". It's a book called "The Treasury of the World's Best Loved Poems". Maybe when cash is worthless, I'll finally read the book!:lol2

Not only are we stashing cash in our home, but also in the trunk of our car. (Food too is valuable!)
Our family does a lot of road trips. Perhaps a disaster happens and we have to detour from home? We also keep a duffle bag in our trunk with 3 days of clothes per family member, some provisions, toiletries, and other items for travel and emergencies. I keep a minimum of 2 cases of bottled water.
Here's an awesome link to a guy who survived Katrina and has some of the most wonderful advice about stashing cash, valuables, etc.
