Just curious-is it a sin for women to preach at the pulpit?

In college back in the 90's-I attended services at the Methodist Campus, and I thought the woman preacher did a good job. However-I'll admit at the time I myself was just merely a window-shopping church goer.

Women aren't supposed to preach to men.

The word of God is the same, no matter who preaches it; male, female, straight, gay, whatever. Women are children of God, just like men. If you can't accept that, then you're hopelessly trapped in the dark ages.

I would have to disagree with you on that.

Homosexuality in the bible is clearly written to be a SIN

Yes, a sin. People don't like to hear it but hey, it's the dark ages.

I understand that women can preach to other women, and minister to men (as individuals), but women should not preach to a mixed congregation.

If you look at Genesis, read chapter I. It's like an over view of what happened. Then read chapter II. It gives more detail about what happened in chapter I.

Notice in chapter II, that Adam was created first and God told him the ground rules. Then notice that Eve what created after God had told Adam. It never says that God specifically told her the rules. So how did Eve incorrectly paraphrase what God told Adam before she was made? It was Adam's responsibility to tell and teach her correctly. So ultimately, they were both at fault. How do we know that it was Adam's responsibility?
In 1 Timothy 2, it adds a bit more to the picture by saying women should never preach to men and the man is the head of his family. If Adam and Eve were the model of a perfect union, how should that be any different than what Timothy says?

I'm not saying women make bad preachers, but their skills can be used more to minister to individuals and draw more people into the church. We are usually in a more ideal situation to do this. Men generally get higher payed jobs and work with the same people all day, while we are more likely be the second income, and work at a department store with the poorer crowd and come across more people.

I feel us as women shouldn't be spending so much energy on maintaining the media's idea of "I can grow up and be anything/do everything!" (and try to apply the lifestyle to Godly living), and focus more on what God has given us to do.

If you are a woman and good at public speaking or like to preach to large groups of people, we really need some strong women's christian groups (I have seen many that are a joke). We can support the man in his job, but don't take over his responsibilities like the media expects us to run every single aspect of our families. Doing so would upset the balance.
Men need a place in the role just as much as we do. Taking over these roles, leaves the man to always listen, and we as women should all know what happens when the man never gets a word in. He usually starts ignoring us. I'd say it may even drive him from the church, with others to follow (A healthy church usually has people of all ages, and 'roughly' equal men and women in it).

For those of us who have trouble with the word "submissive"...keep in mind that, yes, we should be submissive to our husbands. But if his command is something wrong, and we know what really is right, we can refute him.

There are a few people that will take the who preaching/submissive thing out of context. I used to have a real problem with it, but after I looked at the situation like this, I really had no problem at all.
I hope that clears a few things up.

Let your women keep silent in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. (1 Coritnhians 14:34)

Clearly does not allow women to preach in church. This isn't being "trapped in the dark ages," but compliance with the loving Word of God.

.

Although I agree that women should not be "pastors" of a flock.... this verse has nothing to do with women not being able to do so.....

The word "speak" in this verse is the greek word, "laleo"....which is only used in 1 Corn 14. Many have used this as a command for women not to preach....but some have seen at as an injuction against women "chattering away" during the service....which was more than likely the point being made(since it is used only here.) ((From Vines expository dictionary)). If we use it as "not speaking" and hold to that....women must at no times speak in church. The latter makes much more sense....since the letter was written to a specific church about a specific problem that they were encountering. IE...women chattering outload during the service.

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
(NIV).

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Romans 1:26-27
