bought a LOTR game and it says Windows XP, but it says Media: DVD-ROM.
I am confused. Computer games have always played fine on CD-ROM.
I plan to play it on a computer that has a regular CD drive, not a DVD.
The exact game is
The Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth Anthology

How can it have to have a DVD when videos have always done great on a CD=ROM game?

It uses a DVD because more data can fit onto a DVD than a CD. Most modern computers (which is definitely what you need to play one of those games) come with DVD rom drives

You can take out the cd drive and put a dvd drive in it's place. They do not cost much either.

Only 2 cables plug into it. You can unplug the old one and use those same cables to plug in the new one. It's that easy.

A DVD can hold 4G
That's a lot more than 800MB

Granted you can very easily install a DVD drive but if the computer is that old I wouldn't expect that game to run very well. Do you happen to know the rest of the computer specs?

That's a lot more than 800MBDual layer DVD's hold about 8GB.
New games coming out on CDs will be rare from this point forward. Its a matter of duplication cost to the publishers. Pressing DVD's only costs a fraction more than CDs For instance, Age of Conan came on 2 DVD's. The install (before patching) was 15GB. That would be almost 20 CDs. That's a huge cost difference to the publisher.
You are much better off getting a DVD drive, Eternally. You can get a decent dual-layer burner for under $50

I think he is going to need older games. He doesn't have gigs of memery or processor speed, etc.
