Lately my computer has been soooo slow and I noticed it is running approximately 41 background processes. How do I know which ones I can safely eliminate? Thank you!:idunno

That isnt necessarily too many depending on what software you have installed.
Can you post a list here? We could take a look at it for you.

You could post a list and we can try to help you out.
Another way is to search each one on this site:

It wouldn't hurt to run a virus and spyware scan either. It might identify something that you might not see or won't recognize.

Did you recently switch antivrus programs or install any new software that runs in the background?

Laptop or desktop? Laptops tend to have a lot more cruft running in the background than desktops do.

Visit Blackviper.com (http://www.blackviper.com/).
Click the Control panel then Administrative Tools then Services.
Visit the site mentioned above whether you run XP of one of the versions of Vista, there is a step by step guide about turning off unneeded services that run in the background, these unneeded services tap your system resources and ram.
But be careful what you disable, it's a good idea to be VERY FAMILIAR with your operating system.
