What's the deal with these guys anyway ?

What's the deal with Buddhists, Scientologists, Robert Schuller, Rick Warren, Todd Bentley, Oprah, Mormons, RCC's, Unitarians, et al anyways as well?

The number of these false religions that have blossomed, especially in recent years, is very alarming.

True, but Hinduism seems to be everywhere just now, I spent a week in San jose recently, place appears to be full of them.

I've read that there are now over 1.2m of the cow worshippers in the US, up from about zero in 1965.

Fastest growing faith in percentage terms in the country.

Are they a danger ?

San Jose might have a large concentration of Hindus since a lot of Indian techies work in Silicon Valley and thereabouts.

Not sure what you mean by danger...you mean would they resort to physical violence like some Muslims do? :idunno Most techies I know are mostly concerned with working hard and saving up before their work permits or contracts run out and they head back to India. These guys don't have much time for anything else. It's a long waiting list for green cards I hear.

Yeah, phyisical violence is what I meant.

When some muslims get to a certain percentage in the population they start to impose values on the majority, Hindus in india are already destroying sites of worship belonging to other faiths.

Are we going to find out in 20 years time, we can't have a steak or visit a McDonalds because it offends Hindus that consider cows holy.

Will Hindus do the same ? Pat Robinson called Hinduism Demonic, yet we're so obbessed on the dangers of Islam that we're ignoring this other potentially more dangerous threat

Hindus in India make up 80% of the population...in America, they're well under a fraction of a percent. Can't see that changing even in 50 years time.

I read about a US Indian guy a few years back (strict vegetarian) who sued MacDonalds and won because he found that the french fries he ordered were fried in beef tallow. But that's not the same as Hindus demanding that others stop eating beef.

But yes, there have been rising cases of perseuction of Christians in India by extremist Hindu parties. In states where they won elections, they passed laws outlawing conversions to Christianity and have looked the other way while their supporters attacked and burnt churches and schools.

Inevitably that these are upper caste Hindus - Brahmins and such, who are finicky about food and suspicious of Christianity. And the people who convert are usually poor tribals and "untouchables" who've been ground under their heels for thousands of years. The caste system in India would make South Africa's apartheid look like a picnic. :ohno You've never heard of a white Afrikaner who rushed to take a purifying bath just because he accidentally touched a black African, did you? That's what upper caste Hindus were taught - they would loose their "caste purity" if they touched an untouchable or even let his shadow fall on them. And their scriptures the Vedas call for molten lead (I kid you not!!) to be poured into the throats and ears of any lower caste or untouchable who dares to read or recite the Vedas - it is out of bounds for them. Well, good thing too - it has lead them to seek Christianity instead.

Physically? I would say they are a potential danger. Militant Hindus have martyred Christians in India for years. Like Muslims, it's really only the fundamentalists who are violent.

Spiritually? Absolutely! Hinduism is seeping into the Church even as we speak! Yoga is a Hindu form of god/goddess worship! Also, many forms of meditation are Hindu in origin.
