My 8 year old daughter has headlice!!!!!! :panic I also keep another little girl, and her mother found the nits in her hair this morning. :doh

I was up till 2 a.m. washing, and vacuuming, and mopping, and bagging up toys. I'm a little tired.

I went ahead and bought the RID lice treatment, but decided to use olive oil instead, and it worked great. I soaked her hair in it, let it sit for about 30 minutes, then I started running that metal comb through her hair. We sat for about 2 or 3 hours combing out dead lice and eggs. All of the lice that I combed out were dead except for 3. I'm going to do it again tomorrow.

My daughter has dark hair, and the eggs were black and very small, and the lice were really small and also dark, so that's why I didn't catch it. The other little girl also has dark hair, but because she had the white nits it was easier to see. I don't know why she had the white nits, and my daughter had the dark eggs. I can't figure out for the life of me, where they got them. I've thought maybe from a little girl down the street, or from the place where they took their swimming lessons last week, or from somewhere else, I just don't know. I feel so bad that the little I'm keeping got them, but since she's here with me all the time it makes sense that they both got them.

I feel your pain..........many many years ago my 3 daughters got them from a family that was visiting us...they were sharing a baseball cap. It was a nightmare. They all had long hair, but what horrified me was my 13 month old baby had them!!

True....after washing, vacuuming, throwing stuff out....I too was tired. They have never shared a cap...comb....or anything similar since. :hug

I wasn't sure if I could post it or not. I have used this stuff for a while and it seems to really work. It is a little expensive but I think it is worth it.

An inexpensive and effective treatment for head lice is mayonnaise. You put in all in your hair, put a shower cap on and leave it for several hours. Not the most fun activity but it does work. We used is when my daughter was two and got them while in daycare. Nothing else including RID worked.

I just checked the little girls hair who I'm keeping for the summer, and I couldn't find a single nit. I don't know what her mother saw, but I don't think it was lice. I'm going to treat her with the olive oil like I did my own daughter and see what we find, but I didn't see anything that looked like what I found in my daughter's hair.

My youngest daughter got head lice when she was about the same age as your daughter.

I used the RID treatment. I also got a prescription med from the doctor to use on my daughter. (like RID, but a little stronger)

She had hair down to her waist and it was blond.

I had to treat myself, my husband and the other 6 children with RID also. Yep there were nine people in the house exposed to the little buggers.

The main thing is to go throught her hair about 3 times a day if possible. Have good lighting overhead close so you can see the nits. Combing and manually removing any nits you find on the hair strands. The RID will kill the adults but you have to manually get rid of the nits by combing and pulling them off the hair strands. I would part my daughters hair and look for nits, doing this over the whole head at least 3 times a day. Thank God no one else in the family got them.

She got them from her cousin who got them from the daycare she went to.

Just keep after them and you will get rid of them. they usually congregate at the back/nape of the neck and around the crown of the head.

When you buy it a little goes a long way and my daughter uses it every shampoo and her hair is thick and down to her rear. I have 3 kids in the school and all three have thick hair. Our school has alot of outbreaks so to me, it is worth it.
