Why are the conventions at later dates this time?

In previous elections, they would have one convention in late July, and the other in late Aug.

However-this year, the Dem convention is in late Aug, and the Repub convention is ONLY A WEEK later.

Does anyone know why? I just find it strange, especially after so many decades, centuries, it's been the 1st para.

I don't know why...but when I heard the date of the Republican National Convention this year, it made me think of Dead Heat by Joel Rosenberg. I believe the RNC in the book was in late August or early September (and if you've read the book, you know what happens there). :faint :lol2
