THE SAD ROAD TO SOCIALISM
What happens When Private Property is No Longer a Right

“But if the government undertakes to control and to raise wages, and cannot do it; if the government undertakes to care for all who may be in want, and cannot do it; if the government undertakes to support all unemployed workers, and cannot do it; if the government undertakes to lend interest-free money to all borrowers, and cannot do it; if .... ‘The state considers that its purpose is to enlighten, to develop, to enlarge, to strengthen, to spiritualize, and to sanctify the soul of the people’ -- and if the government cannot do all of these things, what then? Is it not certain that after every government failure -- which, alas! is more than probable -- there will be an equally inevitable revolution?”
-Frederic Bastiat, “The Law,” June, 1850
It’s been more than 150 years since Frederic Bastiat wrote his treatise, The Law, a small work, challenging the ravages of failing socialism thrust upon France as a result of the French revolution.
In that unique pamphlet, Bastiat points out that when the law of any country supports the moral belief systems of a people, defends the rights of said people and their property, the law is perceived as being moral; a defense against evil and those who flaunt it as being immoral. Payment of taxes and civic obligations are perceived as a virtue and those who flout this as criminals.
However, when the law becomes

Consider the U.S. as a motor vehicle. We are so far down the road to Socialism that someone standing at the beginning of the road would no longer be able to see our tail lights.

Karl Marx believed the three stages of government were ....
1. Capitalism
2. Socialism
3. Communism
I think he was correct.
The Ten Steps of Karl Marx Implementation in America
1) Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
We already have this in America. Through property taxes we have been made serfs on our own land. Through tyrannical zoning laws, wetlands regulations, EPA regulations, etc., we no longer control our lands. Our once strong private property rights have been abolished through regulatory oppression, bureaucratic tyranny and unbiblical types of taxation.
2) A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
We already have this in America. The higher your income, the higher the tax bracket you are placed in for purposes of calculating your tax bill. This is completely evil

Hmmm...if that were true, why have many communist countries become capitalist countries? Perhaps Marx got it backwards.
But then again, considering Marx's policies (or philosophies) have reaped nothing but strife, anguish, poverty, war and death, I wouldn't exactly consider him to be one of the world's best thinkers.

Perhaps you don't get the whole picture, then again you may think of yourself as one of the worlds best thinkers.:rolleyes
You probably still think we live in totally free capitalistic country :doh
I have a great idea why don't you prove the article to be false, you know the 10 planks why don't you show us how the USA is not heading right down this road.
As far as it being a Mormon site :idunno doesn't change the 10 planks.......google them for yourself.

Karl Marx was paid by the "League of the Just" (later named the "Communist League") in 1847 to write the Communist Manifesto, and again to rewrite it in 1848. The Manifesto was intended to incite violent revolution, was a recipe for tyranny itself, and later served as a 'glorious goal' to believe in to blind followers to the realities of the brutal dictatorships that oppressed all "workers" and slaughtered millions under Communist rule. Hitler's "Mein Kampf" served a similar gruesome and bloody purpose. Many dictators throughout history attempted to disguise their tyranny with similar labels and phony philosophies to make it seem somehow just--another example is the doctrine of "divine rule of kings." These 10 steps are a part of the Manifesto, the full text of which can be found on the web.
Western nations including the United States have gradually implemented virtually all of Marx's 10 key steps toward creating a dictatorship. What are some examples can you find? Americans would be wise to study the "Ten Planks" and demand that the President and Congress abolish all laws, regulations and agencies which govern these (and all other) unconstitutional seizures of power. Communism was never intended to free man, but to enslave him; indeed the Communist Manifesto promised a "dictatorship of the proletariat" and history proved it always ended up slaughtering millions of the proletariat.
Karl Marx's "10 Planks" to seize power and destroy freedom:
Abolition of Property in Land and Application of all Rents of Land to Public Purpose.
A Heavy Progressive or Graduated Income Tax.
Abolition of All Rights of Inheritance.
Confiscation of the Property of All Emigrants and Rebels.
Centralization of Credit in the Hands of the State, by Means of a National Bank with State Capital and an Exclusive Monopoly.
Centralization of the Means of Communication and Transport in the Hands of the State.
Extension of Factories and Instruments of Production Owned by the State, the Bringing Into Cultivation of Waste Lands, and the Improvement of the Soil Generally in Accordance with a Common Plan.
Equal Liability of All to Labor. Establishment of Industrial Armies, Especially for Agriculture.
Combination of Agriculture with Manufacturing Industries; Gradual Abolition of the Distinction Between Town and Country by a More Equable Distribution of the Population over the Country.
Free Education for All Children in Public Schools. Abolition of Children's Factory Labor in it's Present Form. Combination of Education with Industrial Production.

I've been accused of many things in my life, but never have I been accused of being a great thinker (much less being one of the world's best thinkers). Hence, I'll agree to disagree with you on that one because I'm certainly not a great thinker.
As for our free capitalist country, I've never claimed such a thing nor do I believe our country is a free capitalist country. One need only look at our history (slavery etc) and the way government has continued to grow to put that silly notion to rest. Why you would assume such a thing is beyond me, unless of course you're simply willing to put words in my mouth so you can prove me wrong.
You claimed that Marx believed in three stages of government: Capitalism, SOcialism, Communism. Then you said you agreed with him.
I merely pointed out that there are many countries in the world today that have rejected the Communist form of government and tended toward capitalism. Thus, Marx is clearly wrong (at least your interpretation of Marx).
Even the Pilgrims at Plymouth learned the hard way the socialism simply doesn't function as it's supposed to.
If you're interested in focusing a discussion on how AMerica is slowly moving toward a socialist state, by all means I'll agree with you. But the problem Marx and you have is that there is another piece of the puzzle AFTER the COmmunist takeover (if the system makes it past socialism): Communism and Socialism simply don't work. These systems don't lead to the promised Utopia promised by Marx; they lead to anguish, war, poverty, and death.
If there was any doubt, just look at history.
