View Full Version : My Job - Time to Move On?

I've worked in my current job for 3 years. Love working for the men that I work for, love working with my co-workers. I go to work with peace in my heart each and every day. Completely satisfied.

It was suggested I apply for another job that is a promotion. I've told them twice before when they came to me - I'm happy in my current job.

Now I got to make a decision - additional responsiblity, a lot more stress. It's a move from a technician role to an administrator role. The people I would work with I know - and there are some strong personalities involved.

Not asking for advice - just posting some random thoughts. I think I'll go out and run 9-10 miles and see what my spirit says...

Just weigh the two. Do you think you will be happy? Or sad that you made the choice to move up?

Does it involve the kinds of things you would find interesting or pleasantly challenging? Do you believe that you will have to butt heads with the people you've known?

Do you think that God may be giving you an opportunity that you are naturally hesitant to step into, or do you seek an easier existence?

There are alot of ways to look at this. Now I'm not suggesting anything here, but in my experience, when I was offered a job as an assembly supervisor, I was hesitant because of the corporate demand I might be facing. I did take that particular job, but I found that I love it. I'm not insinuating that that is your case, because it may not be.

But it's important that you think out all the angles and present it to the Lord. If you aren't in a rush or hard-pressed and give it sufficient thought, that you will make the right decision as you keep your heart open to God on it.

I'm not rushed. I can put my name in the hat and the interview process will be atleast 2 weeks maybe 3. The persons suggesting it was actually my potential co-workers, they asked me to put my name in. I have a reputation of getting things done, but I can also be a bulldog with those that aren't as motivated.

I was asked just a month ago to do this, several times. Said no. They nearly hired someone but the candidate fell through.

But you nailed something - I am seeking an easier peaceful existence. Perhaps because I've worked in some jobs I was unhappy with. Hmmmm. It would be a growth / stretching experience.

I'll toss my name in the hat. This is gonna be hard. I had my annual review just last week and I told my boss I have no interest in working elsewhere, that I am absolutely satisfied with my job.

I would just really pray about it. If you don't feel like you have a clear answer from Him, and you have to make a decision, then all you can do is go forth, and just ask God to open the door if it is His will, or shut the door if it isn't. He knows when you are asking Him...

If you're happy and able to pay your bills...stay.

If you're happy and able to pay your bills...stay.I was going to say the same thing.

Not everyone has a job they can be at peace with. Its a valuable thing to have, and shouldnt be discarded lightly.

I agree with Faline and Hootmon. If you are happy and content with your current job, why give it up for one that you say would be more stressful? Pray and go from there. Good luck!

That's good because you will certainly get a wide range of it. I'm sure the Lord will guide you.

Sometimes, God allows us to make our own decisions. Whatever you choose, do so WITH Him and He will take care of the results. You can't make a wrong decision with God at your side.
Also consider, why are you making a change? To glorify Him or yourself?
(Sorry to sound so strong here, but whenever I make a change because I "want" something, I usually fail).
