I Believe!!!

:heythere Hi all, I live in the NW and it seems that our corn is pretty small (first year seriously growing it). The tassels are light brown but the white milky substance isn't there when testing the kernals. Is there something I need to do to help my corn, or is it just too early to harvest?
Also, I've got a squash (which I thought was acorn) that looks like little watermelons and a light yellow inside....does anyone know what that is and when it's best to pick?
The only thing I can think of is this is a pumpkin (are they green when they first start to grow and then turn orange?) and I'm not recognizing it.
I've looked up squash and can't seem to find it....:idunno

Not a woman, but gardening piqued my interest.
Regarding your corn did you fertilize it? If not your corn may not get very big, next year fertilize using 13/13/13 fertilizer. Your corn will be ready for picking when the silk on the ear turns black.
As for your squash, I don't know what kind it is. Maybe it is a watermelon, this year when I planted squash apparantly there was a mix up at the seed factory as I had several watermelons grow up in the middle of my squash rows. :lol2
I grow a certain kind of squash, and seeing as though we live in different climates I am willing to bet the breed I grow is different than yours. I pick my squash when the fruit starts getting big.

Hi there Learner, :wave
Ok, so it sounds like I'm not being patient with the corn (had heard that when the silt is brown to pick then), yes I did fertilize, hmmmm well I'll just give it some more time.
I figured out that the squash is a zucchini squash, after I put it next to the zucchini and noticed that the pattern was exactly the same as the zucchini.:lol2 I think I forgot that I had planted that.
How's your garden going?

So-so
I planted squash, tomatoes, watermelon, eggplant, and bellpepper this year
Heat kills squash, so all of my squash is long dead now. That being said while they were alive we had some great squash
I planted my tomatoes in two different plantings, about 3 weeks apart. So right now my first planted bushes are dying, but my second planted bushes are just starting to make fruit. Unfortunately the nitrogen in my soil was a tad high so the first fruit on the bush rotted from too much acid. However, the high acid later made for some good tasting tomatoes
The bellpepper caught some kind of disease or something, and did very poorly this year
My watermelons are just starting to come in, but the deer have already eaten about 100 of them. I need to finish my electric fence, but I have been under the weather lately
