To me, this song is so powerful, it's in a catagory of it's own.

Hope someone out there will like it.

I don't like that song. The melody is haunting and most of the words beautiful - however, I hate the mercy seat line. The mercy seat was a very specific item in the Old Testament. it was a lid, not a chair. Further, if it is speaking of the throne of God - it is a seat of judgment, not mercy. So, I just don't see the song as Scriptural.

OneDayNearer, so glad you enjoyed the song, it's one of my favorites.

Jeders, sorry you didn't care for it, I doubt there exists a song that everybody likes.

As far as being unscriptural, I put music in the catagory of praise, not teaching of doctrine. And though technically I may agree with you, there are very few if any songs that we all would agree were doctinally pure. That is certainly the case with the D C Talk song, "Left Behind" that I posted, (maybe you like that one), but I wouldn't post any songs if I felt they had to be perfect in handling Scripture.

Lavender, it isn't a matter of caring for it. The melody is absolutely haunting. Beautiful. Most of the words are fine. But, it is unscriptural.

I was in a praise band where we did that particular song. I just felt convicted that if there is a song that is unbiblical, we shouldn't be singing it. I don't believe that most songs are doctrinally impure. This one is. I think if asked to sing it, I would reword that section and it would be okay. Having come out of a seeker-sensitive church where the reverence for God was growing less and less each day, I'm finding myself very protective of that line. We have to be. The church is a mess in many areas. I believe we have been to permissive of deviating from Scripture is the main reason why.

Jeders, thank you for sharing where you are coming from. I couldn't agree more with your last two sentences.

Blessings

I came here to start a thread on this song, but it was already started. :)

They sang this in church yesterday and it was so powerful. I just watched this video and it brought tears to my eyes just like yesterday. It was almost as if the angels were singing along. I think songs like this is what we will hear in heaven, only much more glorifying and powerful than we could ever imagine. It really tugs on your heart! Here is a video of her and the band singing it live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FObjd5wrgZ8

As far as TWO WORDS in a whole song causing one to be convicted about its intended meanings, well that's between you and the Lord and I cannot and would not judge you for it. IMHO, I think that is a legalistic interpretation. Even though the throne that God sits on is one of judgment, it is also one of mercy. You and I would not be given eternal life if it wasn't for God's grace and mercy. Yes, God will judge us for what we did to further His kingdom on earth, but His judgment is just and will be merciful. Praise His name for He is holy, just, gracious, and merciful!!!!

This is my favorite verse:

Filled with wonder,
Awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your Name
Jesus, Your Name is Power
Breath, and Living Water
Such a marvelous mystery

Chokes me every time!!
