View Full Version : Definitely no recession in my neck of the woods...

I live in Michigan, albeit a fairly wealthy county. But still, it IS Michigan.
Tonight (Thursday) my husband and I decided to treat ourselves and go out to eat at about 7:30pm. On one stretch of 2-mile road, there are many restaurants -- probably a good 20 in all.
We tried EIGHT of them -- some were pretty upscale:
PF Changs
Bahama Breeze
Mitchells Fish Market
On the Border
Macaroni Grill
Bravo Italia
Claddaugh Irish Pub
Champps
EVERY ONE of those eight restaurants were on at least a 30 minute wait. The one that we finally settled on didn't have any parking open (because the movie theater was behind it).
Uh, yeah... on a Thursday evening? At 7:30 at night? A half hour wait?
I don't think people are hurting all that much where I live. I was astounded.

That's amazing, isn't it? Strange.
I love Claddaugh. We have one in my neck of the woods and I was greatly impressed with the quality and price.
Everyone keeps telling me to go to PF Changs, but haven't made it down there yet.

30min? That's it? :doh I would LOVE that short of a wait!

LOL -- I just noticed where you're from. I figured it had to be some major city.

Here in Texas, it's not bad at all either-the state added some 40K+ jobs in June.
Of course-TX too is a very wealthy state.

I guess that was where my surprise came in. Michigan is not a wealthy state. There are some wealthy areas, but over all we are hurting big time (auto industry).

Who knows? What does everyone else see out there?

Oh county...sorry misread it as "state".
But yeah-clearer now, and surprising.

Actually, in per capita income for 2007, Texas ranks 21st, which is slightly better than the midpoint of the country. Texas $37,187 21st

It is fantastic. I love to go there, but rarely get to since my hubby isn't a big Chinese food fan. And, it's a little on the pricey side, but nice for an occasional treat.
I agree that there isn't much of a recession going on around my area either (Chattanooga/North Georgia). I keep hearing everyone complaining about the economy being so terrible, yet they all seem to have plenty of money to pay for their cell phones, cigarettes, fancy clothes, and other non-essentials. :idunno
