There is a woman in my playgroup who frequently cooks for the rest of us while our kids play together. Last week, she made these really yummy Indian "dosas" (crepes) with some kind of mango sauce. Anyway, today she was explaining another Indian recipe to some other women (she's not Indian, BTW). It sounded great, so I asked her where she gets all these recipes. She told me she studies Ayurvedic cooking. I knew that was a Hindu term, but I wasn't sure what it meant, and there was no time to get into it (my little guy was tired and ready to go home). I found a website explaining it here: http://www.sanatansociety.org/indian_vegetarian_recipes/ayurvedic_cooking.htm
This practice is deeply rooted in Hinduism, and the cooking of this type of food is a means of worship.

My question/dilemma is, should I now avoid this food since I know that it is essentially a sacrifice to idols? It would be easy to pass on the food (it wouldn't make a scene) but I'm not sure if it is necessary. I almost feel like I shouldn't touch it since I know what is behind it, KWIM?

I'd love some feedback on this:hat

BTW, this woman also is very into Eckhart Tolle's book:fearSo I know that she takes this stuff seriously.

Wouldnt touch it.

There is plenty of Indian food which is secular that you can feast on.

The same goes for halal (islam) as there are a ton of them here where I am.

Yeah, that's what DH says. He says that since I know, I shouldn't eat it.

Can you tell me about halal? There are lots of delis owned by Muslims around here that advertise they are halal (including the one where I get my occasional b-fast sammiches:fear

Your question appears to be a conviction to me. :nod :thumb:hug

now, not trying to be a pest...

but i have to ask, what would make muslim food ok, but ayurvedic not.... since technically both foods by procurement or preparation are deemed 'acceptable' by false gods?

i know, its probably splitting hairs, but it got me thinking.
