Halal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halal) resembles the OT restrictions as to what foods are Clean and Unclean.
Im sure there is a lot more available through a Google search.

We had a deli that went halal a year ago, so I looked it up.
Simply put it's the Islamic equivalent to Kosher. But the meat must be killed in the name of Allah.

so, could it be said that the halal meat is sacrificed to a false god--- or is that stretching it?

I think that would be stretching it. But even if it is, 1 Corinthians 8 addresses this exact situation by saying "Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that 'an idol has no real existence,' and that 'there is no God but one.'" (1 Corinthians 8:4)
So whether it is or is not sacrificed to a false god is really a moot point (if everyone had the same amount of faith). Except in the case of another Christian who's faith might be weak. 1 Corinthians 8:11-12
And so by your knowledge {that it's ok to eat things sacrificed to idols} this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

well, yes, that was my point in another thread, but if based on the idea that a food prepared in a "magical" method for a religious purpose should be rejected on the basis of it being 'food sacrificed to idols' would halal foods be put under the same category being prepared under the guidelines of a false god?

therefore food sacrificed and killed in a prescribed manner and blessed in the "false god's" name would be considered as such...
I prefer to abstain.......
they are taking over here......... :ohno

Some Hasidic Jews will eat food made in accordance with Halal. The Halal laws are almost identical to Glatt Kosher according to a Jewish friend.

But the question is, identical except for what? :scratch

The food is prepared for consumption invoking the blessing of a false god. Why would a Christian want to partake of such food? Are we not to abstain from even the appearance of evil? Eating food prepared in the name of a false deity is blasphemous, and therefore could easily be viewed as questionable, in my opinion.
God bless.
