My brother asked me about Christian Science (not science from a Christian perspective, but the cult/church by that name) after he saw a lot of churches called that in California and wandered if it was Christian or a cult related to scientology. I told him it was a cult but did not know what relation if any it had to scientology. Does anyone have any info on them?

Do a search on Mary Baker Eddy

Here are some pages I found that may help:

http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Cults/science.htm

http://www.allaboutcults.org/christian-scientist.htm

I have not found anything to link it to Scientology, but stranger things have happened . . .

Just to make a long story short...

1) They do NOT believe Jesus is Christ. They believe Christ is a "divine idea" from God.

2) They do NOT believe Jesus is Lord. Of course, there's many verses in the bible that says so. But CS tries to come up with verses saying otherwise.

3) They believe salvation comes through spiritual healing.

4) As for the crucifixion, they don't buy it b/c to them, spiritual = immortal wheras non-spiritual = mortal. When, in fact, Jesus SHED HIS OWN BLOOD to pay our sin debt in full on the cross.

5) Instead of getting a pastor to preach their sermon, they get 2 congregation members to read scriptures.
