I think it was Ben Franklin who once said "God has made man in his image and man has returned the favor." Sadly, I feel that is a true saying - even among Christians. My aim in this thread is to communicate together (in love), that we might glorify God in knowing him as he revealed himself to us, and as a result, recieve the joy that will no doubt follow. I'll pose the question.
How do you see God?

I see God as a loving and caring Father, who gives us the freedom to make the right choices about our lives, through his grace.
Rom 5:20
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

Hey guys,
Would you please elaborate on your answers? I'm especially interested in knowing what you mean by "Father figure" and how knowing the names of God can help us to know God.
Later,
Terrence

How do you see God?
When I see God, I see Christ.
John 14:7
If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
John 14:9
Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
John 8:27
They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father.
There is no better representation of God, than Christ. In fact, He is the very God.
Hebrews 1:3
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
In short, if one desires to know God, then He should desire to know Christ. What He did, what He said, what His heart was all about and how He interacted with men. Its obvious and it is true that Jesus is plastered all over the new testament. He is also plastered all over the old. The scriptures were about Him and testify to Him. So for me, how I see God in every practical, is to see the Son.

That's great stuff Heisenough! That's what I'm trying to get at. Would you flush that out a bit though. What are God's attributes from the old and new testaments? Is he still "wrath filled" like the OT or is he Loving like the NT? What does wrathfill mean? What does his love mean? Is he like a "father figure" like a human father? This is what I'm asking. What's he like to you guys?

Thats a fairly large subject. I can direct you to some links if you like. Tozers "Knowledge of the Holy" is a good place to start.

You read Tozer? There's a man that had a love for theology. Sure he never came to a definite of whether he believed in predestination or not, but he loved theology, and he KNEW God. I don't feel many of us can say we know God as he did. Back to the point of the thread though...Can you just give some points? Like maybe just give a concise answer to the question by using a few scripture and expanding on them.

Tozer came from the C&MA, which I am a part. If I had not read it, I wouldn't recommend it.

God is too huge for me to comprehend. Everytime I think I grasp a little more of who He is, I at the same time grasp how BIG He is. He measures the span of the UNIVERSE with His hand.
Every attribute of God is BIG.
You mentioned His wrath. Yes, God still has wrath. When my son gets unjustly angry and knocks his older sister on the head I get angry. Imagine how God must be filled with anger being totally righteous and having to deal with our sin.
I think if we took a couple attributes and tried to dig with scripture it may be easier than just trying to discuss all of what we understand of God to be.
