I've posted variations of this a few times before, but we've only kicked the tires a bit.

I'm not firm on this. It's just something that makes some sense to me and I thought
others might want to give it a test drive. It may break down as soon as you leave the
lot with it or it may have some good miles on it.

Speculation ahead. :)

Joel 1:1 through 2:20 seems to be an overview of the Gog led attack also found in Ezekiel 38-39.

Joel 1:15

The day of the Lord is at hand, but hasn't actually arrived yet.

Joel 1:18-19

"How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture;
yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured
the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. The beasts of
the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the
pastures of the wilderness."

The beasts groan and the herds of cattle are confused.
Their pastures and the trees have been burned.

Ezekial 38:19-20 tells of God sending a great earthquake.
Ezekial 38:22 tells of God sending rain, fire, brimstone, etc., on the invading army.
Ezekial 39:4 has the invading army falling upon the mountains of Israel.

Interesting that the northeastern corner of the Golan Heights is an inactive chain of volcanic cones
where beef and dairy cattle are raised. Inactive volcanoes go active = earthquakes, fire, brimstone,
acid rain, hail, burned pastures and trees.

Joel 2:1

The day of the Lord is still at hand, but still hasn't actually arrived.

Joel 2:2-11

Further describes the Gog army, the invasion and the beginnings of God's wrath upon them.

Joel 2:17-19

"Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people . . ."

God begins to reveal Himself to Israel and the world through the events of the Gog war.

Cross reference with:

"Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known
in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD."
Ezekial 38:23

Joel 2:20

The destruction of the Gog army

Compare:

"But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and
desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his
stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things."
Joel 2:20

"And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel,
the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers:
and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog."
Ezekiel 39:11

Joel 2:21-27

Israel acknowledges that God has intervened and "hath dealt wonderously" with them.

As a result of the Gog war, the Antichrist confirms a peace agreement with Israel.
A time of peace, security and prosperity for Israel.
Temple rebuilt?
First half of the tribulation.

Joel 2:28-29

"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh;
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams,
your young men shall see visions: and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids
in those days will I pour out my spirit."

"afterward . . ."

After what? After the events of the Gog war? After the Antichrist has confirmed the
peace agreement?

Prophecies, dreams and visions of the coming of Jesus as well as other people and events
leading up to that (activities of false prophet and Antichrist, etc.,.).

Joel 2:30-31

"And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible
day of the LORD come."

The Antichrist breaks the peace at mid trib.
Last three and a half years of trib.

Again, "before the great and the terrible day of the LORD."

Joe 2:32

"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered:
for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant
whom the LORD shall call."

Israel realizes that Jesus is Lord.

See also Matthew 23:39:

"For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say,
Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord."

Joel 3:1-15

All nations come together in the valley of Armageddon.
The "final day" of the Day of the LORD.
The "great and the terrible day of the LORD."

Joel 3:16

Jesus defeats the AC and his army.

Joel 3:17-21

Millennium.

Joel 2:28-29

"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh;

Isn't it commonly thought that the removal of the restrainer (Holy Spirit, which also infers the removal of Christians via the Rapture(2 Thessalonians 2:7)), is what causes everything to roll down into the tribulation period?

Maybe my understanding is mixed up, but why would God remove the Holy Spirit, and then pour out his spirit upon all flesh?

Sounds like the Trib. to me...Remember, the Day of the Lord is His 2nd coming...at the end of the Trib. So, Gog/magog could easily happen after the rapture, and after the Trib begins.

Thank you for posting this ATCYLB - it's fascinating that you put this up because just this week I was reading through Joel and came to the same conclusions as you have - wondering if chapter 2 referred to the Ez. 38 war - so much of the terminology sounds familiar... I did have one differing thought though, if I may... perhaps I am wrong, but don't parts of chapter 1 sound more like the results of the regional war that would maybe take place before Gog/Magog? I am speaking specifically of certain verses that refer to the new wine being cut off, the fields ruined, fresh oil failing, the harvest being destroyed, etc... to me, this sounds more like, "in that day the glory of Jacob fades, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean.." from Isaiah 17:4. I know that Israel gets hit hard in the Is. 17 conflict (probably Damascus' demise), but the Ez. 38 affair seems to be handled directly by God without any harm coming near the Jews. Am I seeing too much in that? I just figured chapter 1 was Ps. 83 and all that, and chapter 2 was Ez. 38. The rest I agree completely with you on.

I have to agree with you. :nod My Bible has a preface to each book and for Joel it says:

Disaster strikes the Southern kingdom of Judah w/o warning. Joel, God's spokesman during the reign of Joash (835-796 B.C.) seizes this occasion to proclaim God's message. Although the locust plague has been a terrible judgment for sin, God's future judgments during the day of the Lord will make the plague pale by comparison. In that day, God will destroy his enemies, but bring unparalleled blessing to those who faithfully obey him.

Thanks for the post

We must have the same Bible. :lol2 :thumb

Gog and Magog most believe to be Russia. With that said Russia is destroyed by God himself when they turn totally against Israel and want to eliminate her after the 1000 year regin of Christ.

Revelation 20
And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

8 and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, Ezek. 38.1-16 to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Again, all I can say is this interpretation that the Gog Magog war happens at the end of the 1000 years is completely without other scriptural support. It will happen before the tribulation, which countless scriptures do support....
