I'm getting confused by so many sites saying that the latest version of Dreamweaver is '8' and others saying it is Dreamweaver CS3. Which is it?

I'm thinking of taking (online) the Intro. to Dreamweaver class next month instead of the second part of my current class called 'Creating Web Pages.' Course Two will include an introduction to (X)html and CSS. Still trying to decide which class to take, but I've got about 3 wks. before I have to enroll. Is it prudent to go ahead and learn as much about (x)html and CSS as I can before progressing on to Dreamweaver, (even though I've read that Dreamweaver doesn't require the user to be html literate)?

Thanks for any suggestions that you may have.

Actually, it's very simple.

Adobe bought out Macromedia. Macromedia produced Dreamweaver 8.

Adobe rebadged Dreamweaver 8 as Adobe Dreamweaver CS3.

Thanks, Kung. I appreciate the clarification. I think I've decided that my next web design class will be Intro to CSS & (x)html instead of Dreamweaver, but now that I understand the difference in the names of D'weaver, I won't be as reluctant to take a class in D'weaver 8, since it's the same thing as CS3. I just didn't want to invest time/money in an older version. :)

I think that Dreamweaver CS3 has been 'tweaked' by Adobe to interface better with Photoshop CS3, than Dreamweaver 8 did. You might check the National Association for Photoshop Professionals web site.

Thanks, Bob, for the good advice. I will check out their site as I get closer to taking the actual class, and therefore purchasing Dreamweaver for my PC. Web design is interesting, and I look forward to having an authoring system. Our instructor said that it's a good idea to be conversant in html anyway for future editing purposes.
