A trilogy of "The Gifted". This is one of the most uplifting and intriguing Christian novels I’ve read in a long time. The whole premise of the story is very intriguing. She centers on Paul’s epistles to the Corinthians. I had never noticed in both letters Paul mentions other letter(s) with the “S” being prominent. Think about it for a moment....if you’re reading I Corinthians and Paul says letter(s) then why would it be plural if he were talking only about II Corinthians and vice versa. Not unless maybe there were more epistles than just the two. I checked out the author and apparently she’s fluent in Greek and has checked out the original Greek of the two epistles.

From that she’s created a wonderful, inspiring tale of faith, courage and hope.

The novel is set in 1339 in Italy and the main characters are “The Gifted” a group of individuals prophesied by Paul in one of the missing epistles to the Corinthians. It was intentionally withheld by the Church from the Council of Nicaea and not included in the New Testament. It was also God’s will that this epistle not be revealed until the appropriate time.

A monk, claiming Divine Inspiration, copies the missing epistle and illuminates the manuscript with beautiful pictures. A picture of the beautiful healer which is the spitting image of her. Her family crest is the peacock which is also an ancient symbol of Christianity. The monk is also depicted in this illuminated manuscript. The Church decides the illumination and pictures are heretical along with the very existence of the epistle and orders it destroyed and the priest burned at the stake. Since this was not God’s will it was not the end of the lost epistle from Paul to the Corinthians. Enter an ancient tapestry woven hundreds of years before with the artist also claiming Divine Inspiration. The tapestry was the altar cover for the church in Seina. The pictures on the tapestry is the spitting image of the noblewoman/healer and the monk. When the tapestry is turned over the back of the tapestry has another story to tell. A giant dragon is poised to devour the peacock.

Enter “The Gifted”....men and women with great gifts of the Holy Spirit not seen since the Apostles and Pentecost. These men and women are part of a prophecy about to be played out. A monk has the gift of Wisdom. A noblewoman the gift of Healing. A beggar child the gift of Discerning Evil. A knight of the church the gift of Faith. Other “Gifted” will be added to their ranks....a person with the gift of Visions and others with more gifts of the Holy Spirit.

“The Gifted” begin to draw together and know each other. They have the first part of the epistle but not the beginning or the end. They only know they are supposed to do great and wonderful things in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Danger lurks all around. An evil sorcerer knows the time is near for the prophecy to be fulfilled. He works non-stop to corrupt those around “The Gifted” so that he can use them to either corrupt “The Gifted” or kill them if they cannot be turned. A traitor is placed among the circle of “The Gifted”. Will they ferret out this evil before irreparable harm is done?

The Cardinal who has a portion of the epistle and wants to use “The Gifted” for what HE wants for the Church.....to bring the Papacy back to Rome where it belongs. Is his will the same as God’s?

The Church itself which holds this epistle to be heresy. The Church which holds that Scripture should be only taught to priests and monks in Latin and not converted into the common tongues of men for the common people.

Thus begins the story of “The Gifted”. It is a wonderful journey of discovery of Who Jesus really Is. The Love of God revealed. How to be obedient to God even though it might mean losing all they have and possibly even their lives. Having the courage to do the will of God even though it means the Church and others will not understand. Bringing the Love of Christ to the people in a way they’ve never experienced before. Showing them the miraculous things God is prepared to do to show just how much He loves us.

The first book is “The Begotten”. The second in the trilogy is “The Betrayed” and is due out in the summer of 2007 and the final in the trilogy in the summer of 2008 (title not available).
