hi everyone :wave

i was wondering about Luke 10 :scratch

Luke 10
Jesus Sends Out the Seventytwo
1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[a] others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

did this include the disciples? if so that means 60 fell away

thanx for any help :)

Yes, there were disciples that feel away, though Im not sure they were the same ones refered to in Luke 10. Some followed Jesus for a time and when the "tough got going," for lack of a better phrase, they left Christ. They knew knew the Lord in a saving manner. The ones that do know Jesus in a saving manner, respond as Peter did - namely, "where can we go Lord? You alone have the words that lead to eternal life."

It was 70. (according to the KJV)
After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
It was another group and did not include the disciples. (As indicated by the word "other")

Why do you say they fell away?

Read the rest of the Chapter, specifically pay attention to v17-20

i say fell away because i remember reading that Jesus asked the 12 disciples if any of them wanted to leave him like others had :scratch

wow, i'm surprised they didn't insist on hanging around Jesus :D

Can you or anyone point out the instances in the NT where it the scripture show where someone left, or walked away?

Please don't think I'm disputing that, just thought we could all point those instances out, and maybe see the different reasons why they may have done that.

if so that means 60 fell away

Psalm 22

6 But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by men and despised by the people.

7 All who see me mock me;
they hurl insults, shaking their heads:

8 "He trusts in the LORD;
let the LORD rescue him.
Let him deliver him,
since he delights in him."

In the end, they all 'fell away'. His restoration of Peter is a wonderful example...deep too.

Matthew 26

56But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

woo hoo! i found it :D i had to go to my NIV & look through manually to find the verse JOHN 6:60-70

Many Disciples Desert Jesus
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" 61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you? 62 What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit[e] and they are life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him."
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. 67 "You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. 68 Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." 70 Then Jesus replied, "Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!" 71(He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)
