Russia Plans To Cut Imports Of U.S. Meat

Amid fraying trade relations between Moscow and Washington, Russia said it would slash U.S. import quotas for chicken and pork, both big export products to the region from the U.S.

After U.S. officials said Russia's war with Georgia had cast doubt on Russia's bid to enter the World Trade Organization, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Monday called for pulling out of trade deals that Russia had signed when it was expecting quick admission into the trade body.

Then Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev said Wednesday that Moscow plans to reduce quotas for imports of chicken and pork by "not tens but hundreds of thousands of tons"...(more at link below)

YEA !!! More for us !! And other countries will quickly buy it anyway. Or we can send it our Soldiers, Or 3rd world countries that need food, Russia needs the food this sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face!!!!

It would also mean lost of jobs for the workers, not a good thing. It will actually hurt the economy and that is one of the reasons Russia is looking at that as an option.

that was going to be my next question.... cause i'm sure they are doing it on purpose to hurt the US... no other real reason.

I believe the article states that and something regarding the WTO, how Russia agree to certain things in 1999 to boost their economy, one being imports from us and now they are back peddling. Saying that I am very weak understanding the agreements and such that were made with Russia when they collapse so hopefully someone with more knowledge can inform us.

My brothers wife is from Russia.. They are only hurting their own people by not getting what is needed..
They are acting like a spoiled child.. ((No you can't make me eat that.. I don't care if it's good for me.. I don't like you! You can't make me... ))) yada yada....

Their people need medications, food, household supplies.. etc..

As for our people being out of work not really.. There are plenty more that need that chicken and pork..

If I remember correctly alot of pork is exported to Asia. So there is still a big market.
