Anyone have any recommendations for good Christian parenting books?? Besides the Bible of course :) I have heard "Shepherding a Child's Heart" and "Instructing a Child's Heart" both by Ted(?) Tripp (I think thats his name?) are good and biblical. So I think I might check them out. Any other ones I might want to check out??? :idunno

Dr. James Dobson has written some great parenting books: Dare to Discipline, Hide or Seek: How to Build Self-Esteem in Your Child, The Strong-Willed Child, Parenting Isn't for Cowards, etc.

I second the Dr. Dobson books. Those strategies work well with my kids.

Dr. Dobson's books are great...of course my daughter is just now at the age where her personality, stubborness, etc, is starting to show through (she's a year old).

You'll probably find yourself consumed with books on babies for a while. It wasn't until Bridget was about 6 months old that we started reading books applicable to when she was older.

Someone recommended a book to us when I was pregnant with her titled:
Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby: Tracy Hogg

We weren't going to check it out at first because it sounded a little too "new age" for us. We decided to anyway and it was great! The best book we read for information and help the first couple of months. The charts in the book were priceless...especially the one that describes different cries and how to decipher between them all and figure out what your baby needs.

The first night home my daughter screamed and cried for hours. We looked up the chart and it said she probably had gas and how to relieve it. My husband went to Walmart at 1am and picked up gas drops, etc. An hour or two later she was fine.

I'd check it out and see what you think:)

Thanks so much ladies for all the recommendations! I'll definitely be looking into all of them.

Can anyone recommend a book for a new mommy (and daddy), who won't have any family close by to really help, and what to expect the first year?? I don't have a CLUE about babies! I really don't even think I've ever even held a newborn... I'm trying to find some on Amazon but all the reviews are making me crazy and unable to decide!!! lol. Any suggestions?

Hey,
Definitely check out or buy the Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby by Tracy Hogg.
We received so many books from people...but this one was the most helpful. Also, my hubby had never been around babies either...my sister bought him a Good Housekeeping book on how to hold, bathe, feed, dress, etc. a baby. Very practical and he felt a lot better after reading it.
Don't stress though...it will come naturally:) Ask for advice, etc. from nurses, doctors and lactation consultants at the hospital....that's what they're there for.

I have a book called "Your baby's First Year week by week". It's not christian based but it gives pretty good information on what to expect with the weekly milestones and problems that can arise with your baby. I read through this book several times when my DD was born and it helped with alot of questions that I had.

Hope this helps and Congrats on the little one. I'm sure you and your DH will do a great job with your child!
