"But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away".My Friend, who studies the Bible more than anyone I know, claims that this verse means that Paul is saying, that once the Bible is,(or was)completed, that there was no longer any need for Prophesying,Tongues messages, words of Knowledge, etc. He says this verse implies that the written, perfect Word of God is all that is needed(or to be trusted),in the Church Age.Anyone have any thoughts on this ? :scripture :panic

2 verses later, same topic:
"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." 1Cor 13:12

Ever had a 'face-to-face' with your Bible? Does your Bible 'know' you?

I believe 1Cor 13:10 is about Christ, the Perfect, Who I know I will see 'face-to-face', and Who does 'know' me (Jer 1:5)

I 'predict' your friend is a cessationist,.. (and I'm not even a prophet)
Many cesstionists attempt to use this chapter to discount tongues and the Gifts today (which is what this Chapter is all about), but they conveniently ignore the continuing verses. But when you read them, and then realize 'the perfect' and 'face-to-face' could not possibly be describing an inanimate, but rather the person of Christ Himself, then you must also acknowledge that tongues and the other gifts could not have ceased, since the Bible says they cease only when 'the Perfect' has come, and you have your 'face-to-face',... and Christ hasn't returned yet, and you haven't had your face-to-face yet...

If that is the case, why does it say;..."But when THAT which is perfect is come....."I Cor.13:10,and not...'' But when HE....?Were talking about Lord Jesus or the Bible?I thought they were the same?John 1:1,"In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God,and the word was GOD..."Also ,II Cor.5:16 says,"Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh(circumsision in the flesh),and II Cor.13:17,"Therefore,if any man be in Christ,he is a new creature(Circumsision of the Spirit). If we are "Baptized into one Body by one Spirit, whether we be Jews or Gentiles..."I Cor.12:13.

If you go back to Chapter I Cor 1 you will find Paul writing, (and forgive me, this is from memory,) "Brothers, I pray that you come behind in no spiritual gift until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." There, Paul defines what the Perfect is, and it's what this board is all about, the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Just look around ... are every one of 400+ million Christians who believe all the gifts still operate in the church today, believing a lie ... or are some just a bit slow in catching up :)

Do numbers alone make something right - certainly not, but Scripture, plus the fruits of the Spirit, plus numbers, means something is going on. God is getting His people ready for the rapture ... there's even more to receive, I believe.
