If so, what kind is it and do you like it?
I'm looking for a good quality microscope for science. I can't spent a thousand bucks, but I don't want the super cheap one that doesn't really work, either.
I'd like the microscope to last through high school, if possible.
How many magnification levels should I look for?
Any tips would be appreciated!

I just bought a new microscope for biology. The Apologia people suggested a particular microscope with 10, 40 and 400 magnification. The price was $200 and it's good quality.
You could get it directly through Apologia or you can get the same one, same price, through Rainbow Resource (http://www.rainbowresource.com)

Advice - don't by cheap if you have a child really interested in biology or medical science. A good one should be in the $200 range.
Check Educational & Fun or any science store.
You may have free access to one through your public school. (well - you already paid the taxes)

I borrowed one from another homeschooling mom who isn't using it this year. I agree that the price of $200 is about right in getting a good one. The one that I'm borrowing was bought used from a school and is very nice. Keep your eyes open at the state homeschool fair as well. :thumb

Although I would like a $200 microscope, the one I bought was about $30
and the things I could see living in my ponds algae was amazing.
Makes me want a good one, but it worked.

I've done a lot of research into microscopes and found these to be some of the best for the money. This one in particular is pharmaceutical quality.

Even better, it can be hooked up to your computer and you can take pictures. For $100 less, you can have it without.
This is what I'm buying for my daugther's science projects.
