:gaah

I got a set for my ds's 10th birthday. The age says for 8+ so I'm thinking it will be a great gift for my son who loves to build stuff. He loves a good challenge and figuring things out.....

:hairout

It has taken me a good 45 minutes just to figure out how to put the battery back together! :nuke And I'm usually pretty good at this stuff too. :ohno

They don't mention the fact that you need a degree in engineering to work this stupid thing. Yes, the directions have pictures but that doesen't mean they make sense. It makes the directions to a computer desk from Staples look like pre-school play time. :rant

Dh thought this would be a great toy for our son because he had one as a kid and loved it. In fact we still have a crain up in the attic he built with it. This was dh's expression when our ds opened the box up>>>>>:shocked "It's uhhhhh........a bit more complicated than when I was a kid!" :faint

And don't even get me started on the Hot Wheels jumpy thingie that won't jump. :tape:banned:target

Let your boy figure it out. :nod

I remember that my folks were a bit confused with the erector sets we had as kids. But we figured them out. :idunno

When he saw how complicated it was he got bored real fast and walked away. :tsk

I think I'm going to have to figure it out step-by-step ahead of time and then help point him in the right direction. Basically build then unbuild it. :lol2 I think once he get's the hang of it he will be fine and on his own.....I hope. :ohno Right now he views it as way too hard for him to figure it out so he won't even try.

ok, I took the "instruction" book away from him and showed him how he can just use the nut/bolts/ect to build something of his own. Right now he's making a robot all on his own. :yay :whoo

Lisa you were right. :nod That's why you mods get paid the big bucks :nod :heh

That's what I was going to say. My brother and his friend made my doll house dolls a ferris wheel that turned. I was SO excited.

Until they took it apart so they could build something else. Jerks!:lol2
