Do you guys get these for your kids? I have in the past, but I am leaning towards skipping them this year. I feel like they do not work, and there is no telling what is really in them. I also think the CDC/FDA or whoever is in charge of them does not tell us everything.
I don't know why, I just feel like I should not get them for my kids anymore. I hate shots, and I hate having to worry if vaccinating is the right thing to do. I do it, have never missed one set for my kids...but sometimes I stress.

We don't get them (kids are 4, 6, 10). Keep their immune systems as strong as you can and let their bodies deal with illnesses. The exception would be if they already have a compromised immune system for some reason.

No one in our immediate family gets them. I know some people are strongly in favor of them, but my mum gets them and seems to always end up getting sick from the shot itself! So I'm not a great believer in them, personally.

I get a flu shot every year. The only year that I got the flu was the year that the vaccine didn't include the virus for that season. It's a personal choice, but I've been healthier through the winters because of it. My husband, on the other hand, always has a worse case and has attributed it to the vaccine. Last year he had to get one because our granddaughter was born with a serious heart condition requiring surgery. In order to be around her we needed to be healthy. And he remained healthy. So, I don't know...

The problem is the flu shot (as far as I know) is one of the few vaccinations that still has the mercury in it.
They claimed to have taken the mercury out of all/most kids vaccinations, but the flu shot is used for children and adults. They don't tell you it's the exception to the rule.
I don't take flu shots, but then again, I rarely get sick. I almost think we are trying to rob our kids out of 'sicks days' from school:lol2:
I still think medicine is full of people who don't study anymore, they meerly read the most publicized data and go along with it.
Funny thing is, I have read somewhere in a medical book targeted for people overseas with no expert medical personel, that aliments/injuries that include a cure coming from the very thing that causes it often don't work.
For instance, cure for dog bite is to make stew of the dog's tail and consume it. Or a cure for deafness is to put a rattle snakes rattle in your ear.
It makes me wonder about vaccines now, since, you are using the very germs that hurt your to heal you.
All of that aside, if your kids appear to get a reaction from the vaccinations more often than never getting sick that season. I'd quit using them. They are probably getting exposed to stuff they don't need to (yet), with the additional risk of mercury in the vaccine.
Here's the trend I see.
Not long ago, parents did everything they could to keep their kids from getting exposed to anything dirty, ill, what have you, and now they think that has caused many of the cases of asthma you see. Now we are shifting to the other end of the spectum! Expose your kids to everything, All at once!
Medical Extremism if you ask me.
Sorry, I don't buy that argument. It makes more sense to me to expose our kids gradually, like nature intended.
It doesn't make sense to exposed them to everything at once, just as feeding a baby every food imaginable to develop good eating habits at the start, if some of those foods are hard, or the child might have allergic reactions to it.
My suggestion is, Don't rush out and get the latest vaccination, because you might just be following that latest medical trend. Go with what is time tested and really works.

Rinji, I think that we do try to keep our kids from getting sick today more than we should. I also question the wisdom for some of the immunizations that are being given. I kept my daughter from Gardisil and it has been proven to have caused problems, yet it was this latest trend to keep from a certain disease. I think we all need to speak with our physicians, carefully weigh the advantages over the risks, and make informed decisions.

Children who have compromised immune systems and asthma need this shot.
My kids have had them for years and they are fine. I'm going to get one in the next few weeks. I am fine..:rolls

My youngest son has asthma and the pediatrician told me he should get a flu shot every year. So, I faithfully had him vaccinated for the flu every year. He never had any problems with the flu shot and other than his asthma and allergies, he stayed pretty healthy most of the time. My husband also gets a flu shot every year because he has a lot of issues, one of them being a disease that apparently attacks his aorta. I usually battle the flu every year, but he's only had it once in the last 7 years.

I have never received the flu shot, nor my daughters ages 7 and 6.
A little off topic, about cleanliness.... We went to King's Island last year and I witnessed a mother sanitizing her child's hand after EVERY RIDE. I realize that those places can be dirty, but after EVERY RIDE???? I thought it was a huge waste of time and energy. I know that places like that probably breed no telling what. However, I've been going to theme parks since I was a wee little one and I've never been sick from it before. Oh well, just a few thoughts. All just my opinion of course. I guess when Dateline or 20/20 does a special about the germs in these places I'll do an about face! :lol2
