When there is an obvious troll or multiple personality hanging around, but they seem to have different IP's.....

Well a wireless laptop can be moved around. If it's in say a coffee shop it will pick up the service of the local IP.....move a few feet away and restart your web browser, and if you are in a city with thousands of Internet access providers and their addys all over the place, well, it's just not out of the question is it?

I've seen a troll take on as many as 70 seperate identities before, and we were boon doggled. I have no idea how she scored one IP addy that registered out of Alaska, when most were central to LA, but she sure managed it. The troll was obvious, she had the same spelling errors, used certain phrases over and over, the syntax and writing style were just glaringly obvious.

We apparently have a member whose biggest fans who encourage his bandwidth space eating habits, tell him what a great person he is, on and on, all have a strikingly similar writing style, choice of words and inflated ideas. Now granted I have not yet looked into all their posts....but I do find it interesting that RR has been getting hit with porn spam and other distracting type of posts, be it their content or overwhelming numerous amount, at about the same time.

It's like no one else gets a chance to have posts looked at because they are bumped down the first page with incredible speed and often repeating the same posts that the person made a few days prior.

Just sayin' and offering my 2 cents. Different IP's do not neccesarily mean different people ;)

It is certainly easily possible. People don't even have to move around to have different IPs, they can use proxies which they relay their connection through. There are literaly thousands of proxy IPs out there people can use.

One doesn't have to move around physically to accomplish this - all one needs is a proxy browser that constantly changes one's IP address - you can take on the IP address of India, America, Australia - the whole world - and still be sitting at your same computer! Another way they do it is by accessing an online anonymous browser - you can even buy software such as Hide-IP, etc. But forums can counteract this by installing software to counter-act this and your original IP address can show up. I guess some people would move around physically with their laptop computers though, so they can troll at leisure.

The proxy thing doesn't work when one's computer is networked though - i.e., at work - to accomplish this - one has to let one's firewall down - and that in itself is dangerous for obvious reasons.

Really? I haven't noticed any of this.

We're aware of the situation and are working with the person(s) involved. And we do have a few mods who are aware of the intricacies of the internet. :lol2

Members starting threads about it and/or making rude comments in threads do not help the situation. If you have a problem with their posts, put them on ignore. If a poster isn't practicing what we consider good netiquette, but is clearly a brother or sister in Christ, perhaps a bit of long-suffering is in order.
