I honestly have found that contacting your congress people to tell them of your feelings on immigration (as well as contacting the President) does amazing things. It worked in the last go around on immigration.

Here are the links:

Here is what I have sent them:

Dear _______________

I am writing to tell you that I oppose any legislation that gives US taxpayer resources to illegal aliens and am asking that you veto or vote down any legislation what will condone or reward illegal aliens in any way. This includes amnesty for anyone who has entered this country illegally. I will be keeping record of how each member of congress votes and sending that record to all of my friends and family to help them know how to vote in future elections.

Please represent your constituents in this matter and not law breakers.

Thank you.
