God saved them from Hell to Abraham's bosom because nobody went to heaven with exception to Enoch and Elijah until the cross no other way.

21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

animal sacrafice was something extra then, they had the power of the cross and waisted there time sacraficing all the time, for no reason.Even though Hebrews says they did it once a year because they didn't have the cross.

Most bible teachers will tell ya they looked forward to the reign of Jesus on David's throne in Jerusalem which is mainly what the old Testament prophesied. They saw the lion and not the sacraficial lamb.

James 2:10For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Who can keep the whole law?

faith without works is dead, but the works are worthless without the faith being in place first. We work because we are grateful for what Christ did on the cross. Faith alone does save, or else the thief on the cross could not have been saved, but Jesus told him that today the thief would be with Him in paradise.

1Corinthians2:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:(yep it was there but it was hidden, but your right it was there)
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.Old Testament prophets desired to see what we see but they didn't back then.
