My wife just got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium.

She loves it.

But there is no question that some stuff - for example Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2007 - doesn't work well with Vista.

But she loves it enough that we're going out this afternoon to pick up a Vista disk for her other machine.

Also, many new machines that are being ordered w/ XP are coming with a Vista upgrade option.

We bought two copies of Vista at Christmas time and have only installed the copy on hubby's machine. He hates it.
It makes his railroad game kick off. I am a big simmer fan and so I am worried that it won't play right so I am still using windows xp.

Does anybody here have it and play sims

Sure, if it wasn't a rock bottom budget computer it should be fine. If you have anything demanding on graphics there may be some problems, but they are slowly ironing out those problems.

I had a pre-release of XP when that came out, had it on my laptop, system didn't work for about two months haha. Just another repeat... but longer sustained repeat I guess.

This Vista is a slug, but worth the upgrade if you have a system that can run it and no important software that is rendered useless by it. If you are uncertain about your favorite software, search around google and see if people are having issues with the software in question. That's where I'm at, I really cant use some of my most needed software (besides games) so will probably blow it off for maybe a year until I build a new system. Chances are the bugs will be fixed by then but I don't see the point of buying it to install on a system I may only use for another six months by that time.

It's funny, Vista is suppose to be the solution for the best gaming ever for PC's... if they can ever manage to fix the operating system at least. Anything that needs to use graphics is questionable at this point however... other than your basic desktop applications.

If you are getting a new computer, go Vista.

I remember when XP first came out, SP1 should have come in the same box.

Why buy legacy equipment, brand new?

For the same reason all of us didn't advertise getting XP when it first came out - it wasn't quite ready for prime time, or manufacturers of drivers and such weren't ready.

XP is much more stable than Vista.

I bought a computer with Vista back in February and have had not had any serious problems with it. Right out of the box, MS needed to install 14 critical upgrades.

I have heard that many have problems with a Vista upgrade, but a clean install seems to be less troublesome.

As far as the graphics, you will need Vista to support DirectX, the next generation of graphics cards . Of course, there isn't much software out that need it yet . . .
