James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. We had a message in Church last night about God only giving us good things, and it started me thinking. I am not completely sure how to phrase this question so I will ask it a couple of different ways. These questions are asked regarding saved people.

Is it correct to say that God only gives us good things?

Are all of the thoughts that God has towards us only for our good?

Are all of the decisions that God makes regarding us only for our good?

Does God ever do anything that is not in our best interest?

Are God's thought and decisions towards us for the absolute best or just in the direction of good?

Hi Mike,

There is one name that puts this all in perspective:

Job

Everything God did concerning Job was for his own good. Satan must have felt like he was used after the outcome of Job was known to him.

We know that God disciplines those He loves, because He wants to bless us more than we know. If we are not disciplined by God then we are not His children. We need to listen to God and understand and accept His discipline. King David accepted God's discipline when his child was taken away, and continued to praise God.

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Some things are trials to test and strengthen our faith, and some things are discipline from God. We know that He will always work for good for us.

Matthew 7:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

We need to believe that God gives us good gifts, and ask for them. He always answers us, but according to His will. It may not be the picture of what we ask Him for, but He does answer and He does give a gift. He loves it when we come to Him and rely on Him.

Love,

Bruce

Thanks Bruce, that is a great promise, but we have to ask.
