"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
(2Timothy 1:7)
This is today's (6/21/7) Daily Bible Verse on Rapture Ready's front page.
I thought fearing God was a good thing.
The whole, "out of context" thing won't fly with me on this one because the verse is so clear cut.
Also clear cut is the fact that a Christian is supposed to fear God.
What am I missing here? Thanks.

I think you have to take it in context with verse 8, though, where Paul tells Timothy what he should not fear - Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; - he is not to fear afflictions or be afraid of what people think of him because of his belief in Christ or friendship with Paul. He is not to fear the world or what the world might think of him or do to him.
