So sad because the treasure of his heart was money and material wealth instead of God.

Praying for this man's family. Here are some verses to reflect upon. :pray

1Ti 6:7 For we brought nothing into [this] world, [and it is] certain we can carry nothing out.
1Ti 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1Ti 6:11 ¶ But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

This kind of thing happened a lot during the Great Depression...

Having too much is often even a worse problem than having too little.

I remember when I first moved out on my own, all I had was the bare necessities. I ate cheap food, rented a really cheap apartment with an air conditioner that didn't work all that great. I didn't drive, and wasn't about to carry my clothes across town to the laundry mat, so I did them all by hand.

Interestingly enough, I was never happier. It was so easy to draw close to Jesus at that time--there were so few distractions. Only when I began to be able to acquire more
"stuff", and actually want it, did things begin to go downhill for me. Taught me a very harsh lesson.

Now, when I say to my family that I never want to have a six-figure income, they look at me like I've lost my mind. If only they could understand. All the money, all that "stuff" just gets in the way...
