I just received our power bill for Sept and it's almost $100 more then 2 months ago! Has anyone else received a higher bill like mine? Just wondering if something is the matter at home or if this is normal for everyone... Thanks!

My August and September bills are always the highest of any other month... have you looked into other power companies?

Fpl is our only choice here....:ohno
.....but our August & Sept bills are the high ones....I called the power company and they had a recording explaining that power bills are higher this month because of fuel costs and that more then half the bill is to pay the fuel cost....I couldn't even talk to a person...just recordings... :(

cbressler1976,
Our electric bill has skyrocketed also...more than $100.00 a month. I'm going around making sure the lights are off in the rooms no one is in and we're thinking about putting up a clothes line instead of using the dryer so much. It's nuts.

Electric is also my highest bill. Even more than our gas heat.
But, my gang leaves everything on everywhere. I started cracking down. Every time I caught them leaving a light on, or a tv on, they had to give me a $1, to help pay the bill.
I made $4 in the first few days.:nod

My water bill went up nearly $200. Someone apparently "borrowed" my water hose faucet and failed to shut it off. (I still have no idea who it was.) I got the water bill and my mom came to check things out to see if she could see where the problem was and found it running. The grass all around my trailer is yellowish and dying except for the area around that faucet. It is bright green and tall! Expensive grass...
Considering I'm still unemployed for now, it really hurts.

With our family of five, this has been a HUGE issue!! This summer we lowered our bill by around 80 bucks a month, just by doing the following:
1. Bought a small chest freezer to replace the extra fridge in the garage. Donated the fridge to a needy family.
2. Started using a clothesline instead of the dryer (huge savings!)
3. Replaced all our regular bulbs with CFLs.
4. When it's hot, cook on the barbeque instead of using the oven and heating the kitchen and family room along with the food.
All those things have made a gigantic savings for us, which is good in these economic tough times.

Received notice today that we can expect our power bills to go up sharply - up to 20% at the first of the year. Our electric bill is already around $200 month in the summer.
