Would like opinions/suggestions, please.
I am tired of cooking the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Too much work, too much of a time crunch, little appreciation.
So here is what I have in mind because I can make the sides ahead of time & keep warm in my buffet warmer while the ham bakes:
Baked Ham
Cheesie Scalloped Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Candied Yams
Dinner Rolls
Pumpkin Pie

Nope, not yucky at all. :)
I usually do these every Thanksgiving in addition to the turkey. I LOVE to cook big. LOL
I'm a frustrated chef, as I have only my son and I to cook for mostly now. sigh....
I make a raisin sauce to go with the ham. It's a favorite of my dad's especially so I like to make it when they come over.

Normally we BBQ our turkey, but last year we cooked it in the oven upside down.....and lemme tell you....that was one of the best birds I have ever had. The white meat was to die fowah.
Anyway, we keep it very simple every year. Our menu is:
Turkey
Deviled eggs
Sweet Potato casserole
Green bean casserole
Mashed potatoes
Some veggie, usually broccoli
Rolls
Pumpkin Pie for the kids (this year for the adults it will be Port wine and chocolate)

My mother would not dream of going easy at Thanksgiving, so here is the usual menu:
Turkey (stuffed)
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato Souffle
Noodles
Gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Fresh Cranberry Relish
Pumpkin Pie & Pecan Pie
The fun part is that we go over to her house early in the morning and everybody chips in and helps. Otherwise it would be :panic

I usually do Thanksgiving every year at my house. I always roast a turkey and bake a ham. I make fresh cranberry sauce, cornbread dressing, candied sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls and a fresh veggie tray. My MIL makes a pot of green beans and my daughter and DIL do a lot of baking. They both bake delicious cookies and other goodies. My oldest granddaughter loves to help in the kitchen. She'll probably want to bake something. Oh, we also must have deviled eggs and every holiday calls for good, old fashioned, down home banana pudding. I have to go to the gym tomorrow. I just put on ten pounds. :drool

Here I am in the women's forum again... I wear a few too many hats in my house...
turkey cooked in one of those plastic oven bags. I'll cook the innards first, chop them up and add them to the stuffing.
mashed potatoes
a couple types of cooked vegetables and a couple raw vegetables.
turkey gravy.
black olives
cranberry sauce and jelly
milk and something else special to drink, probably creme soda (what we call pirate beer in our hose), or carbonated apple cider for the kids.
3 or 4 different home made pies for dessert. Usually pumpkin, frazzlebery, pecan, and something else.
