I have always appreciated Francis Shaeffers contributions on showing historically how cultures throughout history have disintegrated. And how important the Gospel really is.

Hey Buzz, I got the first link to work yesterday (Rome) and it was wonderful... I want to watch the rest but I can't get the site to open. Do I just need to wait & try later?

Do these all come from one documentary?

I was thinking they might make an interesting small group study.

A strong message that I have taken from this is the danger of apathy and too big government.

Websters:

Individualistic and critical spirit, and emphasis on secular concerns.

A philosophy that usually rejects supernaturalism and stresses an individual's dignity and worth and capacity for self-realization through reason.

My interpretation: Following one's own desires instead of God's desires.

This is a great question!! I had started working on my PhD in Nursing a few years ago and dropped out after 2 semesters because "Humanism" was the guiding "religion" in the program. To me, humanism is the belief that humans can control our own destiny by manipulation of ourselves, our environment and our world. It is the belief that we are the ultimately authority over the earth and it is absolutely imperative that everyone else take up this belief in order for the earth to survive. It is the guiding force behind globalism, the green movement, organizations such as PETA and the Sierra Club, and government initiatives such as smoking bans and laws that govern what restaurants can serve.
