We had to make a public service announcement at school today and it had to be about a social issue and some of the choices were abortion, pollution etc. Well the guy said he was pro-choice and I asked him why and he told me and I heard him out and I said that I was pro-life and told him why and he asked if I was a religious person, and I said yes. And I asked him what religion he was and he said he didn't know and that he didn't believe in God and he didn't know much about Jesus just that he didn't believe he was the savior. Then I said well why don't you believe in God? And he said because he has no proof. And I said well how do you know there is wind? And he said because I can feel it so I responded, exactly! I can feel God in my life just as you can feel the wind. And he said "wow that's a good point". Then I gave him the analogy that "the Way of The Master" uses in their videos about the judge and the man paying your debt to get out of jail and I could tell I was really getting to him. So then he said that he did not like Christianity because Christians had condemned him for not being a Christian and saying because he is a sinner he will go to Hell, but I told him that people like that may not be true Christans after all. I told him no matter his beliefs I would be nothing less than tolerant and that seemed to get to him. Well then I asked if he had ever attended church regularly and he said no but he had been searching through other religions to find one that suited him. Then I asked what he thought about the bible and he said he thought it was just an old document written by different men. I then said I'd make him a deal. To go home and to real the book of Psalms and Proverbs with an open mind and to block out all of his bad experiences with Christians and Christianity and to read and I told him he would feel in his heart it is more than just an "old document". He agreed and he said he would tell me tomorrow what he thought about it.
Now this is my first time EVER witnessing to someone as I always thought I wouldn't have the courage but I had prayed that God would give me the opportunity and this was the answer to my prayer. I pray that I handled it correctly and that IO at least planted a seed but it seemed to be really getting to him. Keep in mind he is a High School sophomore. So did I handle it good? Can you give me some tips as what to say/do tomorrow? Thanks SO much and it feels so good to have told someone about Jesus. Thanks again I look forward to reading your replies.:)

Sid - I'm just smiling so big! I think you did great!!
I'm also praying for this sophomore to come to faith in Jesus and also for you as you continue to get opportunities from God to witness. It's all the Holy Spirit's work, we're just the vessels - I know you know. :)
I don't know what to tell you about tomorrow because you did an awesome job today and I believe you know God will also lead you then too. Maybe check up and see what he thought of what he read. Maybe tell him about how *normal* (sinned like us) David and Solomon were, but they had faith in an amazing God. Maybe ask him if he will read the Gospel of John. :idunno The Lord will lead you.
Praising God with you tonight!! :yeah
eta: :doh And of course, there's always the fascinating subject of prophecy...

Hey, little bro! Awesome to hear about your first witnessing experience! Want to encourage you! Yes God gives not only the opportunity, but the courage and the power (ability) to witness. God will honor the planting of seeds of His word (His gospel) and He is faithful to use it, and your witnessing, for His glory. fwiw, here's a site that has some stuff about witnessing: ideas, encouragement, helpful tips, & stuff like that.
For stuff just about witnessing, click the 'witnessing' category.

That's so awesome! You were a pro-lifer in every sense of the word. :)
Witnessing in school is extremely important, because many people come to Christ as a youth (I know I fit into that category - I'm glad God got me before I hit some of the trials in my adult life!). Not that we should give up on the older people, because there are so many testimonies out there of astonishing conversions, and people you would never suspect have been won to Christ.

Ok so here's what happened today.
Well i asked him what he thought and he said that he felt something different while he was reading Psalms and he didn't know how to explain it but he said it showed him it was more than an "old document" as he said yesterday. But here's the weird part. He said as he layed down on his bed to read the Bible he felt like he shouldn't be reading it, he explained it as "like a little voice telling me "why are you reading this, you shouldn't be reading this"". I said it may have been Satan trying to keep him from the truth. Please posts thoughts about this. But anyways then he said he needed "physical proof" and I said I can't promise him "physical" proof but for me all the proof i need is in my spirit. And I said you said you have looked into other religions do you feel like something is missing? And he said yes exactly! And I said this is what you are looking for. I asked if this was something he thought might be for him and he said he wasn't sure he needed to look into it more and I told him that he should not put it off because he doesn't know what tomorrow brings. Then I asked him if he knew how to become saved. And he said he heard bits and pieces but he really wasn't sure how and I told him what prayer to pray and I said that just praying this prayer isn't enough, that he should give his life to God. And he seemed to really be listening. He said he will read some of John tonight so I PRAY that God speaks to him through his word tonight and he prays that prayer because I cannot fathom the feeling of knowing that I was partly responsible for this guy being saved as I never thought I "had it in me". But I pray that I made a difference today and I said what God meant for me to say. I know the decision is ultimately up to him but I feel a burden on my shoulders to make sure he is saved, without being pushy of course. Please pray for him everyone, pray that God speaks to him through his words tonight and that he prays that prayer. And I ended our conversation with, this is going to be the biggest decision you ever make in your life. And he said that he has had many people try to convert him but something about me was different. Pray brothers and sisters, pray.

You did just fine, SidOrange91. :thumb
Keep in mind this one thought: it isn't up to us to CONVERT people. We can't do that; only God can. Our responsibility is to spread his word and to explain how to get saved. The rest is up to that person, and the Holy Spirit.
I bet that quite a few Christians witnessed to Saul of Tarsus before his run in with King Jesus on the road to Damascus. Look what it took for Saul to become Paul, yet what a testimony he had before God!!
Don't give up on this person; pray for him. And trust God to do the rest. :pray
