A Poem to Share

I wrote this last month--let me know what you think.

Given a Choice

Would you forgo life in a mansion
for the joys of living in a leaky tent?

Would you give up a safe haven
for the center of a war zone?

Would you trade being Commander-In-Chief
for a position as a slave?

Would you choose hardship and heartbreak
over peace and harmony?

Give up choice meals for slop,
and have nowhere to find shelter?

Would you leave your loved ones behind
to spend years with those who despise you?

Would you let people take the best work you have to offer
and stand back while they bathed it in vomit and filth,
then burned it?

Would you, being innocent,
change places with a condemned, hardened criminal
and take his punishment for your own?

Would you endure being misunderstood and mocked,
being spit upon and beaten,
all in silence?
All for free?

Would you then wish the very best
for the people that wished the absolute worst for you
then brought it about?
